Anniversary dinner in Mexico City

I will be in Mexico City for my wedding anniversary and would like your recommendations for a dinner place. Here’s my criteria
1. Must be able to get in without making a reservation months in advance. It’s this week.
2. I am more interested in the quality of the dining than any specific cuisine. Not interested in spending $500 on a meal for two ( although nothing wrong with that, on occasion). I want to leave the restaurant saying wow, that was a great meal.
3. My spouse and I must be able to hear each other. We recently ate at a place where we literally could not hear each other or the server.
4. A plus for freshness of and paying attention to the ingredients.
5. We will be staying in Condesa but willing to Uber.

would love to get your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

This trip report by Maitaitom might give you some ideas. One of the most comprehensive reports ever on Mexico city on Fodor's. Until someone else chimes in.

My two pesos worth:

In Condesa, we had a wonderful meal at Merotoro.

In Centro Histórico, the ambiance and meal at Azul Histórico couldn't be beat. If you don't want to Uber that far, there is an Azul Condesa location that also garners great reviews. Have a great time and congratulations. Mexico City is wonderful!
