Wedding in Italy-what to wear?
Hi
I'm invited to the wedding of a friend in Italy-she is a young lady I met through work a few years ago, who calls me her "American mom" She's been to visit us twice and last year traveled with us on our big family beach vacation. She's getting married at her family church in Poggibonsi, and the reception is here.

I have absolutely no idea what to wear. Has anyone been to a summer wedding in Italy? Any advice? I know it'll be HOT- the wedding is July 5.

Hello Skoop2, lucky you, Italian weddings are so much fun. But be sure to arrive hungary as usual the wedding banquet goes on for hours with many courses of food. I stress, many courses of food!
I agree with Kate, I would dress up as that is what Italians do for weddings. But personally I wouldn't wear trousers. I would wear a lovely dress with some interesting jewelry. As Kate said, asscessories are all important. Lovely shoes, small bag etc.

Hi Skoop2
I was a guest at an Italian wedding in Sorrento in September, with guests from all over Italy, including Verona and Florence. Many of the women wore silk evening type dresses (some with spaghetti straps) with shawls in the church, much jewelry and strappy heels, then at the reception shawls came off.
I wore a satin jacket and Black silk pants and open-toed heels, and felt comfortable. It was lovely, especially the reception. Have a fine time!

I had a church wedding in Italy. The majority of our guests were Italian. Springtime, afternoon wedding and evening reception in a fairly formal venue. Most women wore nice dresses as the other posters have described - some women wore pant suits, which surprised me a bit bc I don't typically see women in suits at American weddings. No one really wore cocktail dresses - nothing sequiny, overly glitzy, no "little black dress" type dresses.
Have fun!
