Cuba for New Years? What's the weather likely to be??

Hello! Considering Veradero for New Years. Has anybody been there @ that time? What is the weather typically like in late Dec/early Jan. Looking for a beach holiday!!

Hi WOW!!

Well I have spent 4 separate New Years at different locations in Cuba. Varadero, Cayo Largo, Havana and Isla de la Juventud.

Results.
One very HOT year at 33+C
Two normal at 24 to 28C
One cool at 16 to 18C
These are the daytime hight with nightly lows approximately 5C lower.

Each trip has also had, on average, one days rain.

While that past is no predictor of the future, I would take a sweater for the evenings but your days should be ok.

Have a great Cuban experience.

Hi Steve - if I may ask another question...without having to do a lot of searching on the internet, would you know off hand if any of the ai's in Cayo Largo have dive shops that offer the nitrox diving certification?
thanks

Hey Dos Gatos....

Long time no hear from you. I haven't seen your name in the postings for quite some time now.
As to your question about Cayo Largo, I don't have any direct knowledge of Nitrox diving at CL.

However you might try posting your question on

www.caribline.com

in the Cuba forums which is much more active than this forum on Cuba.

Also, you could try sending a direct email message to;

Liván Hernández López at;
[email protected]

Livan is the Commercial Director for all the hotels on the Archipielago de los Canarreos. Tell Livan that Steve from Canada (former Scubacan friend) says hello to him and his wife Yaqueline. I'm sure that even if Levan does not know the answer, he will be able to find it out for you. He does speak English.

All the best and I hope you find the answer to your question.

Hey Dos Gatos.....
me again.

Found this other source of info for you. It is the main dive shop on Cayo Largo so they might also be able to help you out.

Hi Steve, yup, been busy planning our wedding at the Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan next Feb..well, the planning is pretty well done what with the great wedding coordinator they have on site so been spending time on the hand-made invites and such (27 people so far are coming, unbelieveable). Anyhoo, that fella I'm gonna marry is looking to do his Nitrox certification and well, if we have to squeeze in a week in the Caribbean in the fall, well, bummer I'll just have to go along! Most of what's he's read says that they don't have the nitrox in Cuba at all, but I thought if there was one expert to check with, it'd be you! Thanks for the info and I will check them out, otherwise it looks like Akumal down in Mexico.
By the way, I tried emailing you I think saying I had gone to your site to look at your pics of CL and how absolutely fabulous they were..did you ever get that?

Hey dos gatos:

Looks like we are hijacking this discussion thread, but what they heck.

Honestly, can't remember whether you posted a reply from my website on Cuba. Unfortunately I keep clearing the inbox due to space constraints. But really glad you enjoyed the site anyway. Thanks for your kind words.

And hey.... BIG congrats on the upcoming nuptuals. I'm sure with all your advance planning it will all come out just fine. But if it's too much of a bummer to spend a week in the Caribbean in the fall, just send ME the ticket. Always willing to help out to releive your workload. ha, ha, ha.

All the best
Steve.

p.s. After the wedding, when does it become "tres gatos"??

Hey Steve, speaking of work, you better get back to it and help that person looking for a nice luxurious hotel in Cuba!
Thanks again and I emailed off to Livan (I tried saying hello to his wife in spanish and methinks i butchered it pretty badly but what the hey, he'll still get the point).
P.S. unfortunately it stays at dos gatos..we've been living in sin for many years so the wedding is just more a reason for a party..and he's always said if I want anymore cats I have to boot him out...so I'll keep him.
