Drive from Grasse to Beaune? Or stop along the way?
Hi! Trying to plan a trip to France in September, and realizing I need to be in Grasse for a few days (perfume related). From there I need to get to Beaune in Burgundy. I don't have much time, but will have a rental car... is there a small and incredible place that you'd say I should absolutely stay in one night to break up the drive, or should I try to just do it in one day so I have more time in both places? It would be a longggg day in the car, but doable right? Also, any thoughts about staying in Grasse itself or find a nearby village? "Historic charm" is my main criteria, ha. THANK YOU!!!

There are multiple places along the way that would be appealing, but for me the time spent driving and switching hotels wouldn't leave much opportunity to enjoy/explore to make it worth it to me. But that's me. Although they're lovely and interesting, I wouldn't pick the bigger cities... Avignon, Valence, Lyon. Detours to other, smaller towns would add to the overall drive time.
I think spa towns are attractive, so maybe Vichy? Some other places we enjoyed are either close to your starting or ending points... I'd be tempted to just drive but stop somewhere for a nice lunch and stroll.

The drive from Grasse to Beaune is long (5.5-6.5 hours, approx. 600 km) but technically doable in a day. That said, I personally would break it up with an overnight stay, especially if driving alone. If you're a foodie, Pic in Valence would be a top contender for an overnight stop. Also, the Palais des Papes in Avignon is definitely worth a visit if you haven't already been.
I'm not familiar with the Grasse area, however Beaune and its surroundings are worth 2 full days IMO - and that's without allocating any time to Dijon. Beaune itself has a beautiful old town; the Hospices are an absolute highlight.

I stayed in Grasse for a week and really enjoyed nearby Valbonne.
It's 10 km and 18 minutes away. That may be too far but I would love to return.

There's one I loved but it's not midway. It's 2 hours from Grasse but that still makes the next day's drive only 4 hours. I am sure there are numerous other options along the way. I ADORED Eygalieres and especially the place I stayed. I think about it almost daily. I hopefully will be able to return next year.

The place I loved - Mas Notre Dame
Luxury B&B in Provence - Bed and Breakfast - Houses rentals
I stayed in the Julia. Gorgeous room. Gorgeous views. Everything was wonderful. They have beautiful pools but I don't know if they are open in September.

We stopped in the very charming Tain l’Hermitage, just north of Valence. Well, technically in Tournon across the river. Great restaurants, not quite so expensive as a 2* Michelin, and the riverside strolls are just the ticket after a long drive.
The quickest drive from Grasse to Beaune, according to viamichelin is just over six hours of road time, so you could do it. Tolls would amount to just under €100.
A question for others who have driven to Beaune, would it be worth staying at one of the hotels near the suburban Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne?

Thank you all! My instinct is to just leave early and know it will be a long drive. I will have 2 friends with me so we can take turns and listen to music and it will be great, and maybe we just pick a nice spot to stop for lunch. Years and years ago I made this drive, but we went from Aix to Gigondas in a day, and from there stopped in Chateuneuf before continuing up to Beaune...so I haven't done such a big chunk in a day, but I really want as much time in Burgundy as I can manage. So I think just car-tripping for a day is good.
I don't remember the roads being treacherous or anything, so that's good.
