After visiting many of the sights around Auxerre, Dijon and Beaune, I plan to drive south from Hotel Grillon in Beaune to Annecy. I'd like to see what I can on the way and spend a night before I get to Annecy.

At this point, I'm thinking of going by way of Brancion and Cluny--that area west of Tournus and Macon. I'd then likely head toward Perouges and stay nearby that night. Does this seem like a reasonable itinerary for the day?

I'm considering Le Petit Casett in La Boisse a few minutes away from Perouges. It looks quite nice on the website, although it doesn't appear to be in town enough to walk around and explore. It also doesn't have a restaurant. Perhaps someone has a better idea?

The next day I would drive to Annecy hoping to see a few things along the way. Outside of Perouges, I don't know what route I should take to see a bit of the area. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I second a stop at Brou, not only for the beautiful church (exceptional rood screen, gorgeous carved stalls and detailed statuary) but the attached monastery which houses a nice art museum. Very interesting sun dial on the parvis in front of the church.

We had a very nice Sunday tradition meal at Le Chalet de Brou, located right across the street, wine by the glass tel 04 74 22 26 28. Merits 2 fourchettes in the Red Michelin. Right next to it is the more upscale Auberge Bressane, 3 fourchettes.

The drive from Brou to Annecy was quite beautiful in the Fall. What time of year are you going?

Some friends of mine stayed at Le Petit Casset a couple of years ago and had a pleasant time there. I don't know too many details, though. Have you checked Trip Advisor, Jeff?

I think the reason Jeff's not getting more of a response is that Beaune to Annecy really isn't that far, and all of the high profile stops have already been mentioned.

I'm sure the countryside is beautiful. I'd just enjoy the drive.

Make sure that when you're in the Auxerre area you go to Vezelay. Beautiful!
