Tell me about Corfu

I always thought I’d like to stay there for a week or two.
Where would be the best area without a car, maybe Corfu Town?
Definitely in a condo/ apartment not a hotel room.

You don't need a car in the town and having one would be a pain

Biloburgler…..why did you think of Corfu? Was it overrun with tourists?
It looks green and beautiful compared to other Greek islands.

I've only ever been in the summer when it is anything but green. Is it beautiful, well to me it is just another dusty Greek island, too hot but I suspect it is me. If anything I prefer Cyprus but I went in Feb when there were still some rains and I liked it. I suspect I'm more a northern European tourist these days.

The great things about the island. 1) it has a cricket pitch (my joke) 2) every male is called Spiro after the patron saint 3) once a year the corpse of St Spiro is taken for a jog around the town (seriously). 4) going out on a boat is wonderful, they motor off to nice quiet coves, do a BBQ, swim, motor back 5) the town is a typical ancient Greek town.

So my advice is to go in the spring.

Without a car I'd definitely stay in Corfu town. However I'd certainly want to see more of the island than two weeks in the town, so if you can't /won't drive then catch buses or hire a driver. The south if the island is more for the younger element, so head north and then across the top of the island as far as Glyfada, then back to Kerkira.

What do you want to do at Corfu? All depends on your interests.
Corfu has a bus network. There are more lines and more frequent buses during the season.
Some routes (like Issos beach - Lefkimmi ferry) cannot be done by bus.

Fodorites always give the best descriptions. Thanks for your opinions.
Think I’ll move on and find another location.

Without a car, Corfu can feel limited.

Here is our trip report if it helps. Corfu, Our First Grecian Getaway

Four for travel….really enjoyed your report on Corfu.
we’ e been so many places, including lovely Vienna, so looking for someplace different. Unfortunately so many places are over crowded and that is off putting.
Your drives to the small towns sound so inviting but I’m having a hard time talking anyone into doing that
