Ischia

We are planning our trip to Italy for September 2025. We planned to go from Montalcino to Sorrento and started questioning whether there might be a less touristy place to visit. While Sorrento looks beautiful I keep reading about the numbers of people, prices, transport, etc. We will have started our trek in Venice and made our way south. We will fly home from Rome. So we have 5 days and were interested to hear about Ischia from anyone who has visited. What part of the island did you stay and would you recommend visiting? Our trip is is over 3 weeks total,

Thank you for any and all advice!

I spent a week in Ischia and loved the island, even though weather was not great. I would stay either near the main port (not Forio port) or in Ischia Ponte. Of course Ischia gets lots of tourists but I did not find many English-speaking tourists when I was there more than ten years ago And the tourists are spread all over, not concentrated as in Sorrento. I'd recommend IL MORESCO as a hotel but there are so many. For beach, Barano is the place. Nothing wrong with Sorrento, though, although it's smack on the heavily trodden tourist trail......

For me, three weeks from Venice to Tuscany to all your other places might mean a lot of running around, but I like to spend more time in one place..but I'm sure you are younger than I am!

Don't underestimate the time you need for somewhat decent visits of Naples, Pompei, Ercolano, etc.
If you are looking for a Naples Gulf Island with almost no non-Italian tourists, go to Procida.
