Looking at these hotels in Mallorca and Valencia, and a car rental
We're planning a trip to Mallorca and Valencia in mid-September. I'm thinking we'll rent a car in Mallorca. Saw a company called Record Go that was a better deal than any others I looked at (we rent automatic if possible). Anyone have any experience with this company?
The hotels we're looking at, for the places/areas we plan on staying are:
The Salvia, Soller
Desbrull, Pollenca
Bordoy Continental, Palma (we would get rid of the car here, as it will be only 1 night, flying to Valencia the next day)
Cosco Hotel Boutique, Valencia
I'm usually a "bang for the buck" traveller, more concerned about location, and of course clean and quiet, than I am about hotel amenities (like room service, 24 hr front desk, bars, etc), but willing to pay more if necessary. From what I can tell in Mallorca, especially Soller, that's the case, so the Salvia is a splurge hotel for us.

We've stayed very, very happily at The Salvia, after a huge debate about where to stay.
It was a splurge hotel for us also, but certainly worth it, and we don't regret it at all. The owners are superb, very attentive (who arranged a last minute car rental for us) and very kind hosts, and he is a very talented cyclist.
The husband told us that he had acted on occasion as a driver for those (many) guests who were too timid to drive these very serpentine roads loaded with cyclists and had we known in advance, we would have engaged his services to drive us down the hair raising road (the "snake road") to Sa Calobra (yikes!).
We did manage to drive to the extraordinarily photogenic Deia, very busy and super touristy Valdemossa and less visited Fornaluxt (with me begging my husband not to attempt to pass all the cyclists on these very narrow, hair pin roads!)
Hotel prices in Sóller and Port de Sóller are very high in summer, so we just had to up our budget in all 3 of our locations. You know that in the Rioja we stay with our friends in the very moderately priced Villa de Abalos, where you stayed.
We stayed at the Salvia in El Sol Junior Suite, which was lovely, up one flight of stairs, but my favorite room of all is the Garden Suite, which measures 37 square meters and is found near the entrance up a small staircase, considered the "upper ground floor". The Salvia is a haven of peace and exquisitely decorated with fine antiques.
The pool is heavenly and the grounds beautiful. Many return guests stay for 2 weeks.
I don't know the 2-star Desbrull in Pollença, but we did love the town itself, as it's charming in a very different way.
From there we day tripped to Puerto Pollença and historic Alcúdia, which you shouldn't miss.
We stayed in Pollença's historic quarter at the contemporary 4-star Mon Boutique right off the main, very atmospheric square, which is certainly fine, but in luxury, a step down from the elegance and history of The Salvia, a former fruit merchant's mansion.
But it's nice in its own very modern way. Very attentive service.
No garage, so we needed to park in the free lots just a few blocks away. The desk staff helped us with our luggage.
The Mon Boutique has a tiny dip pool on the rooftop terrace.
Everything in Pollença is walkable, and it boasts some lovely dining spots. And the area produces excellent wines.
I'm not familiar with your Valencia hotel.
We've stayed only at the Hospes Palau de la Mar, the Vincci Lys and the former Astoria Palace, now known as the Only You Valencia.
Do you mean the Cosmo Hoel & Bar? It's well located, near the Mercat Central (closed Sun.), where we always go to stroll around this gorgeous market, to shop and to have a mid-morning snack, a big and delicious sandwich (the Valencian "esmorzaret") at Ricard Camarena's Central Bar, right in the middle of the market. I love this market, and I love Valencia.
As to Palma, I don't know the Bordoy Continental, just the Can Bordoy, which is a luxury property. But it's only one night. We had 7 nights in Palma (probably 3 too many in retrospect) as we were there in mid-June with a huge number of other tourists. We thought that in mid-June we would beat the heavy tourist crowd, but no...

I stayed in the Bordoy Continental last year, also just using it as a 1-night base before flying out the next morning. It was nice in a bit of an old school way. Not at all shabby-old, just a "looks like your grandmother's formal living room" kind of old! It's about a 20 minute walk to the cathedral and what would probably be considered the central area of Palma. I don't have too much more to say about it - by that point I was so exhausted I just needed a clean, quiet place to sleep before a long, international flight. I do recall the bathroom being quite big.

My daughter and her husband were in Mallorca June '23. After flight issues and spending an unplanned night in London, they final made it to Mallorca. It rained every day!
Any thoughts on the car rental Record Go?

For dining and minor shopping recommendations in Sóller, Pollença, Porto Pollença and Palma, I sometimes used the advice of blogger Hellen Cummins here.

No thoughts on Record Go, but I did pay attention to a Fodor's poster and frequent Mallorca visitor, BritishCaicos, who swears by Auto Roig, "the best on the island" he says.
In his post,
" I’ve used them for 20 years , they have an extremely positive corporate culture based in Cala D’Or. Most Mallorquin families have known tourism before the Cost Del Sol could spell the word. They know how valuable tourism is, there is a demi Mafia of aristocratic families who don’t really tolerate systematic abuses of tourism. Gold car seemed to have slipped past their radar."

I wish we had known about Roig before we rented on the island.
See this thread here.

I see Roig is a shuttle ride from the airport. If we were to use them, and drop off car, should we then take the shuttle to the airport to get a taxi to go to hotel, or can they call a taxi from drop off location?

Maribel, your quote in earlier post mentions Gold Car. Is that another one?
When I google reviews for any of the above car rental companies, they all have some awful negative reviews, even though most are positive.

I found another hotel option similarly priced as Bordoy Continental in Palma, Hotel Nakar. It did not show availability on the booking sites, but there was availability when I checked directly on the website. Reviews are bit better than Bordoy (Google, TA and Booking.com). Any thoughts on hotel Nakar in Palma?

I've seen the Nakar (during our 7 nights we did a great deal of hotel research, business related) and it's indeed more "upscale" than the 2-star Bordoy. If it were my choice, I'd certainly book the 4-star Nakar and it does have a rooftop pool.
Here's the Telegraph review. These reviews I do trust.

I booked Nakar! It seems that many of the hotels that showed no availability on the booking sites, require 3 night stay, so my 1 night didn't qualify. Luckily the Nakar did have a room for my 1 night, but only with booking direct. It seemed nicer to me as well. Bordoy seems to also be 4 star based on expedia, Kayak, etc. My 1 "budget" hotel, Desbrull is 2*.
My overall hotel budget is definitely higher than my typical vacation, but there doesn't seem to be suitable options at lower prices.

Sorry, MFNYC, I confused the Bordoy with the Desbrull. Glad you booked the Nakar!
We really did need to up (way up) our travel budget for our 14 nights in Mallorca, so I do understand.
What was nice regarding the Salvia's restaurant recommendations: they kept them moderately priced plus they recommended in an email that we let them book for us in advance of our stay, as the area restaurants get booked up far in advance.
We had lovely meals in Sóller at C'an Pintxo (outdoors), the Luna 36 in the interior courtyard (our favorite lunch) on the same street as the lovely art museum, and in Port de Sóller, they sent us to the very popular El Sabor, where we dined twice, having taken the wooden train down to the port, a great ride.
