Nice to Barcelona - please help with itinerary
Hello all,
We are visiting Cote d'Azur for 14days with our 15yo son at the beginning of August. We love beautiful scenery, sandy beaches, medieval villages, good food.
We will stay in Corsica for 1week before taking the ferry to Nice where we'll rent a car and drive along the coast to Nimes. We'll then take the train to Girona, rent a car and stop for the last 2nights to unwind in Tossa del Mar. Return flight is from Barcelona.
Please help with itinerary, attractions (something interesting for teenagers as well), affordable eatery places not to be missed and accommodations.
Thank you in advance.

The Cōte d’Azur is the coastal area between Menton and Cannes. If you are taking the ferry to Nice then I would suggest staying there for 5-7 nights and use the buses and train to explore the area between Nice and Menton before hiring a car to go westwards. Nice’s beach is stoney, so if you want sand you will need to stay somewhere with sandy beaches further along the coast. Eze?
The coastal route to Nīmes goes through Marseille, which can be somewhat congested. You could take the road from Frejus to Nīmes via Aix en Provence and Arles, stopping on route. Also visiting the Camargue would be well worthwhile. Further west on the coast is interesting to explore. I’ve stayed in Pezenas in the past. It was ok, but nothing special, however Agde, Narbonne and Perpignan are lovely, so Agde might be a good base. Note - Cap d’Agde is a purpose made holiday resort on the coast. Agde is slightly inland.
Attractions for 15 year olds? What sort of thing does he enjoy?

Thanks uktravelover. He is very activ, he loves fishing, playing basketball, beach volleyball and soccer, good food and music.
We were thinking about splitting the time between Cannes and maybe Aix-en-Provence as accommodations base. Would these be good locations to cover the best from Nice to Nimes?

People either love Cannes or not and it is very busy in August. It is also expensive. I think you would find more to do if you base yourself in or near Nice. It will still be busy in the Nice area but to avoid the crowds you would need to go inland and Provence is also a very popular tourist destination. If you don’t want to stay in Nice, look at Villefranche, Eze, Menton. Try to book a hotel or apartment with a pool wherever you decide to stay. Aix is a good base from which to visit Arles, Orange and possibly the Carmargue.
