Town to stay between Laterbrunnen and Provence
September: Staying in Switzerland 6 nights then driving to Provence (Lourmarin) for 6 nights then Nice for 2 nights.
Any suggestions for small town enroute to Provence to stay 1-2 nights perhaps?
Been to Annecy, Chambery looks just ok.
Thank you.

PLACE TO STAY BETWEEN INTERLAKEN AND MARSEILLE
All depends on your interests.
You may drive through the Alps:
Interlaken - Gstaad - Pillon Pass - Martigny - Chamonix - Courmayeur - Petit St. Bernard Pass - Val d'Isere - Mont Cenis (Pass or Tunnel) - Oulx - Briancon - Sisteron. Most of these places are worth a longer stay, above all Courmayeur Mont Blanc, nearby Aosta (shortcut from Martigny via Grand Saint Bernard Pass) or even Turin (some 80 miles motorway from Aosta and 50 miles from Oulx).
As an alternative, you could stay in Lyon and vist the big Roman buildings there and in nearby Vienne as well as all the other gems of Lyon.
Or take the motorway up to Montelimar Sud (Nyons, exit 18) and go then to the famous Grotte de Chauvet (prehistoric wall paintings). Drive then via Orange to your destination.
