Hi, assuming Covid-19 is under control by the end of August we have a bear viewing trip booked. After bear viewing, we would like to spend several days exploring Alaska's tundra wildlife - this would be the first week of September. We are wildlife photographers so like to be on our own where we can drive and hike to find wildlife to photograph. What would you recommend at this time of year? We have been to Denali before but the lodging inside the park does not provide enough independence for serious wildlife photography. Thanks.

Head to Nome. The road system radiating from Nome out into the Seward Peninsula bush offers terrific wildlife (and landscape) viewing, and in early September the autumn color on the tundra ought to be superb. Round trip airfare from Anchorage (Alaska Airlines) will be in the $300 range, maybe even less after the Covid crisis. There are vehicle rentals available. Nome is a fascinating place, full of characters as well as history.
