Stopover in South of France

Hi. can anyone recommend a nice place to eat and sleep between Nice and the Italian border? An auberge de charme or agritur with good restaurant? A worthwhile stop for food, wine, atmosphere.......
Thank-you

You know that's only a 38 minute drive, I hope. Are you leaving Nice just as night falls?

No we are actually driving from La Colle sur Loup (short drive North of Cagnes) where we are attending a tournament for 4 days. The food and accommodation will be pretty basic there. Rather than drive straight back to Italy I thought we could stop somewhere nice in France for an extra night. It will take us 5 hours to drive home from the border. Sorry Nice was misleading and we don't want to stay there but somewhere smaller.

I'd look in Menton, in the old town portion. That's just before you hit the border. I don't have a specific accommodation recommendation. If you want a splurge, you can book lunch at Mirazur (**Michelin, #4 on San Pelligrino's Best Restaurants in the World), with a fab view to match.
