Help me with Lisbon,Sintra, Cascais!
Hello!
Me and my family (6 pax) will be travelling from Tavira to Lisbon and will stay in Lisbon for 4 nights during January.
We would like to visit Sintra, Belen and Cascais. From what I have read, it's not possible to do it in 1 day, if you would like to visit some of the monuments in Sintra. We would like to visit el Palacio da Pena and Jardines da Regadeira.
Our doubt is if it is better to do it by train. But I have not found how to go by train from there to Belen nor to Cascais. At the same time, I have read that it is difficult to park the car in Sintra. But maybe during January it's not so difficult. In Cascais they recommend me renting a bike for a couple of hours and stay there until the night, having dinner there.
I wonder if you could help me with the itinerary. Should I split it in two days (one full day in Sintra/Belen and then one afternoon/night in Cascais)? Should I go to both places by car or train?
And if somebody can help me with what to do in Lisbon the time left It would be more than welcome!!!
Tks!!!!

It’s easy to take the train from Lisbon to Sintra for the day. You could spend the night, but with only 4 nights, I’d stay in Lisbon and do a day trip.
Belém is part of Lisbon. You can take the bus, commuter train or taxi.
Cascais is on the commuer line. No problem getting there to enjoy the day (visitcascais.com). Lots of good restaurants.

Agree with Robert2016 - you can take a day trip to Sintra from Lisbon via train. Belem is easy to get to from a local bus. We did that during our 4 day trip to Lisbon. Can't speak to Cascais since I never went there.
Here's my trip report with itinerary, photos, recs, and cost breakdown:

Hope this helps with trip planning!

If you want to do both Sintra and Cascais in same day like I did - take train to Sintra- then bus ton Cascais from there - Belem in Lisbon takes most of a day. How are you traveling from Tavira to Lisbon - car or train - trains do it fine - for more on trains check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
Most folks would want to spend a day in Sintra and Cascais and Belem could easily be paired - trams, buses and trains same direction.

Hi, i'm from Lisbon
It's very easy to go to Sintra from Lisbon. You need to catch the train in Rossio train Station (central station). The Rossio train station is also connected to a metro station, green line.
The trip cost 2,1 euros per person and 1,10 euros for a children. A 2 way journey, obviously, will be the double. There are plenty of trains from and to Sintra and the journey only takes half an hour. Normally, there are 4 trains per hour. Has i said it's very easy and convenient. You can use the reusable and rechargeable Viva viagem card.

The Sintra train station is 1,5 km from the city center and the Pena Palace is very far away, quite a hike, though beautiful. You should hop on the tourist bus 434. It will take you to the major sites. The cost is 5 euros.
Yes, it,s difficult to park in Sintra and the roads are very narrow thought in January it will be less crowded. If i were you, i'll skip the car.
The itinerary should be like these:
1st day: Lisbon
Alfama district: Sé cathedral, Castle Saint George, Walk the narrow streets, Santa Luzia Viewpoint, Saint Vincent Monastery, The Pantheon, Tiled buildings photos, Fado venue
Timeout market food taste
28 tram ride
2nd Day: Lisbon
Belem district: Jeronimos monastery, Belem Tower, MAAT museum,
Coches museum, Belem custard tarts, Ajuda Palace
Baixa district: Rua Augusta Arch, Santa justa lift, Gloria Lift, São Pedro de Alcantara Viewpoint, cobblestones of Rua Augusta and Praça do Rossio. Estrela Church. Rooftop bar
3rd day: Sintra
Pena Palace, Moors castle, Regaleira Palace, City Palace, Roca cape viewpoint
4st day: Cascais (by train, very, very easy 1/2 hour ride)
Boca do inferno cave, Cascais harbour, guincho beach, Cascais coast bike tour (maybe 1/2 a day)

Hi,
From Tavira to Lisbon are a lot of villages that deserve a visit. Mertola, Alcoutim and Cacela are one of those, but since you have a limited amount of time you should ship them for now.
Silves is one of the oldest villages in the Algarve and has one of the biggest castle in the all region:

Évora is also a very interesting village on the way to Lisbon:
