Family Friendly Key West resort

Thinking of heading to Key West with our two daughters, 10 & 7, over Easter Break. Any suggestions as to a good resort, preferably on the beach?

If you are looking for a good beach vacation Key West is probably not your best bet as there is not much in the way of natural beaches there.

Hyatt has a small beach, very small, and family friendly, but I agree, the keys aren't generally a place for a beach vacation.

It may have changed, but this was about the best [and only] one when I was there - it was a longtime ago, so maybe things have changed. But what gmoney says is true, the beaches were not the best.

Look at www.pierhouse.com

It hasa nice, small beach and plam trees, a beach-side restaurant which serves good food, a nice pool area surroounded by plants, and palm trees. It's at 1 Duval Street so you can fly or drive into Key West, get to the hotel, then walk to the sunset celabration at Mallory Square or the various happy hours at the Key West Bight.

DebitNM - you're right. The Casa Marina is the only true resort in Key West, and it's now a Waldorf Astoria hotel. In my opinion, the only disadvantage is its location, which isn't particularly close to places you and your daughters will probably want to visit.

I would like to support the above suggestions of Casa Marina. They have a beach of about 100 (?) feet long. Nice pool. And you can take the shuttle to town.

The Casa doesn't run a shuttle to Old Town. And be advised that they do have a daily activities fee, whether or not you do any activities.

We stayed at the Reach (Marriott at the tim) many years ago and it had a small beach but there was also a clothing optional pool deck next door with many people arriving on beach sans clothing to join the party. Definitely not family friendly.

The Westin on Sunset Key is your best choice for beach, Pier House 2nd best... The Reach and Casa Marina are very poorly located for families with young kids who want to be near the fun stuff... too far to walk...

Another choice with a family might be Ocean Key... perfect location for activity... OK pool, standard type hotel... but no beach...

The Reach has the only natural beach in Key West, and the clothing-optional pool next door was torn down years ago. The place on Sunset Key is called the Sunset Key Cottages, and although it's operated by the Westin, I'm not 100% sure the Westin owns it. (Not that it matters) I haven't looked at the prices there in a long time, but last time I checked they were really high - maybe $400 a night or more.
