Honeymoon Slovakia Early June y/n?

This is the typical weather question (sorry), but I'm reading so many mixed opinions and confusing facts that I decided to ask.

We are planning our honeymoon for early June '17 and since we like discovering relatively unknown places with lots of mountains and traditional cultures, Slovakia is on our radar. We'd probably stay 4 days in The high Tatras area and 4 days around Kosice. We'd travel by public transport. We are into nature and hiking, not too much into castles.

However, is June a good time for this at all? We want to be outside and don't want our holiday ruined by 10 days of rain. So should we maybe safe this trip for late September and go somewhere else for our honeymoon? Is the Southern part of Poland, so on the other side of the High Tatras, better perhaps?

(Fyi, Slovenia (for the second time in 3 years), Istria, and Albania are other options we consider but Slovakia was actually our primary choice)

June should be OK. We were in Zakopane (in spitting distance of Slovakia) in mid-May and had a sprinkling of snow overnight: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca...7630700966746/ but I would recommend Zakopane as being more developed than the other side of the border, although we saw that side 40 years ago: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca...7623046345988/ My guess is that there will be no snow at town level in June but the mountains might still have some which might be a problem for hiking.

Thanks Michael! We don't really mind a bit of snow as we are not planning for hikes to the tops, we prefer lighter 4-5 hrs hikes - but they are no fun in rain and tight mist

The little train/tram on the Slovakian side looks like a fun way to travel from one place to the other. Is there any public transport from Zakopane into the mountains?

I don't know, but the gentler hills on the north side of the town have the chairlifts starting at the edge of the town. The Tatras are a little farther--look at the subsequent pictures in my album.

After doing some more research I figured also some cable cars in the mountains and busses between Poland and Slovakia don't run until later in June, and some hikes may be closed.

I think we may do this trip in Sept '17 and choose another country for our honeymoon.

This may not alter your decision, but I spent a long weekend in Kosice in May of last year and the weather was glorious. I'm talking shirtsleeves, having a drink or two in a public square, warm.

I'm afraid I can't comment on the public transport as I took taxis, but just thought I'd throw in my opposing experience.

Congratulations on the nuptials!

Yeah it may be an option to explore the southern part of Slovakia as it seems to have better weather.... decisions decisions!
