Road Trip-NYC to Virginia via Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge to Asheville-need some help!

My husband and I would like to take a road trip from NYC to Charlottesville, Virgnia and Asheville, NC at the end of September. We are planning on the following, but I'm concerned it might be a little too much driving. We have taken long road trips before, although most of the time it was via interstate and not scenic parkways (although we have driven part of the Blue Ridge Parkway already going north back from one of our trips).

Can you offer any thoughts and help with a stop between Charlottesville and Asheville if we do make it as far as Asheville?

Day one: Head from NYC to Strasburg, VA at the top of Skyline drive, stop at Strasburg Hotel one night so we can enjoy the Skyline drive in the morning...not after driving many hours.

Day two: Drive Skyline drive, head to Charlottesville for three nights at the Clifton Inn.

Day five: Drive Blue Ridge Parkway to ??? (need to figure out a place to stop here in VA for one night)

Day six: Continue on Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville. Stay in Asheville either two or three nights. Haven't picked a place here yet but understand I may need to do so very soon if we want to stay Friday/Saturday nights.

Day eight or nine: Head home via interstate to NYC.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I am not sure how long it will take to drive from Charlottesville to the Parkway and head down a bit. Maybe you can consider the NC/VA line area. Sparta/Stone Mtn area is nice. Not sure about lodging. I just drive up there for work occasionally! I am sure there is something on BBONLINE.

It is becoming a nice retirement area and several new golf course communities are springing up!

I pass by the entrance to Olde Beau and I'm always curious.

Roanoke might be a good choice.

To go from C-ville to the start of the BRP is 1 hour. From Waynesboro to Roanoke is probably another 1/5-2 hours (closer to 2). So three hours of driving puts you in Ronaoke. You could also stop at Peaks of Otter before you get to Roanoke.

If it weer me, I would go a little further South before stopping but not sure where.

Thanks so much for all the feedback. So how long do you think it would take to get from Charlottesville to Asheville via the Blue Ridge Parkway without stopping overnight? We would be interested in driving straight through without stopping but thought it would be way too long (like 9 hours or so).

Well, I think nine hours is actually a pretty fair guess. It's 375 miles from Waynesboro (start of BRP) to Asheville and you probably average 45-50 mph.

I think driving straight through would be way too tiring...plus, most people on the PW make lots of stops.
