Oklahoma City to New Orleans Road trip
1st timer in the area need some help.
I have a total of about 12 days, from 12/12 to 12/24. I was thinking OKC to New Orleans, may be through Dallas > Huston. Would like to avoid freeways as much as possible as a well as big name lodging. the idea is to spend about 2-3 days in NO, than take the freeway back home to OKC for a more speedy arrival.
Thanks for any help

The route we took was OKC to Dallas on I-35 . . Dallas toward Shreveport on I-20, then south towards Baton Rouge on LA 1.
1 takes you thru a lot of smaller towns with tons of things to see. We particularly enjoyed Natchitoches ( pronounced "Nakadish " . ! will take you by many of the "Old South" Plantations that you can take as much time to see as you wish.
You can also drop down to US 90 at Lafayette and take the "Back Door" into New Orleans to see more local sights and great food
