North of Wenatchee (& NW Washington) road trip

Thank you all. A quick recap of our trip...
We took your advice Happytrailstoyou and took the Cascade loop from Leavenworth back to Marysville before heading south to northern Oregon after all.
Pension Anna in Leavenworth was clean & quiet, and the people were very friendly. I missed the view from the Blackbird Inn though and the plumbing was a little iffy for me. It was also blazing hot in Leavenworth so we only stayed one night.
Heading east we enjoyed a stop at Peshastin Pinnacles State Park. I'm a sucker for interesting land formations. North of Wenatchee we had to drive through a canyon wildfire. Had a snack at Lake Chelan and shopped in a kitchen store. Winthrop looked interesting for its western theme. On the North Cascade Highway a giant boulder landed in the middle of our lane! We think it may have happened just before we arrived as smaller rocks were still tumbling down from above. We got out of there fast, but overall we enjoyed the drive along a route that was new to us. We'd gone from a furnace to a freezer within a day.
A great feature of many of Washington's rest stops is the free coffee and snacks! (But we put money in the donation boxes.)
In Marysville, the Holiday Inn Express was a pleasant surprise. We always like eating at Maxwell's in Marysville.
In Oregon, we found the Evergreen Aviation Museum slightly disappointing on this, our third visit. The highlight of the entire trip (aside from the antique airplanes and the hot air balloon 'night glow' at the fly-in in Arlington) was the Stephanie Inn in Cannon Beach. Yes, it was a splurge, but for the room, the view and the service (!!) it was well worth it. It was undoubtedly one of the best hotel experiences of our lives.

When we do the Cascade Loop, we stay in Winthrop at the Rio Vista motel--a down-to-earth place where all rooms have a balcony overlooking the river. We drive up to Sun Mountain Lodge for dinner on the bar's deck. The food is good and the price is fair considering the unbeatable view.
I'm glad to know Stephanie Inn is still a satisfying splurge.
