From San Francisco to Colorado Springs road trip
Hello
We will be flying from Louisville KY to San Francisco. Will stay in that area for 8 nights. We then want to make a 14-day road trip from there to Colorado Springs and fly back from COS. To include the Yellowstone National Park area, the Grand Teton area, and Rocky Mountain National Park area, would we be wise to bypass the area west of Denver like Grand Junction, Vail, etc. Any suggestions. We want to see a lot but, on the other hand, we want to see what most people regard as most memorable. I'm thinking that we could visit Vail on the way to Colorado Springs from Estes Park.

14 days should be plenty of time to do what you want to do. What time of the year are you going?
Give yourself 2 full days to drive from San Francisco to Yellowstone.
Have you made reservations yet for Yellowstone? If not, you better start calling now to see if you can get in on someone elses cancellations. If you can't find lodging in Yellowstone try West Yellowstone, Montana. Which park you visit first, Yellowstone or Grand Tetons might depend on when you can get lodging. If you are camping then it shouldn't be a problem, but I would still make reservations when you know the dates.
Try and spend at least 3 - 4 nights in Yellowstone and 2 nights at the Grand Tetons.
Exit the Rocky Mountain National Park at Grandy, CO and take Hwy 24 down to I-70 to see Vail. If you don't mind skipping Denver all together, from Vail, I'd take Hwy 24 down to Leadville, Colorado (highest elevation town in the US) and stay on Hwy 24 all the way to Colorado Springs.
