Yelapa - Good place for a family for a few days?

I need some advice.....We are planning a trip to PV in Jan/Feb next year. We are traveling with our 5 yr old and my parents. Yelapa sounds like an ideal place for a few days but I have a few questions:

1. How rough is the boat trip ? The pictures I have seen shows really small water taxi boats but I'm not sure if the waters get rough at all? We've traveled from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel and also from Cancun to Isle Mujeres (sp) but those boats were much larger than those being used to get to Yelapa.

2. Do we need to reserve a water taxi in advance? If we plan on making Yelapa our first night where is the easist place to catch the boat if we are coming from the airport? I understand there are 2 departing locations.

3. I get the impression Yelapa is a family friendly place....is that correct or is more suited for adults? We enjoy quiet places and like I said I"m thinking of spending a few nights there to get a taste of it then moving up the coast . . .. maybe to Sayulita.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

We were in Yelapa with our children a few yrs ago.(they were maybe 7 & 9) WE LOVED it!!!! WE stayed at Hotel Lagunita. Loved it. The food at Lagunita is great...we would take walks to the village daily & eat there. It's a truly great little place, an expeirence actually. The boat ride was not bad at all, you can catch it at the dock in OLd PV. Super info on Brads site, Palapa in Yelapa. I have a trip report & lots of pics posted here. It was one of our fave, most relaxing (economical) vacations. Loved it.

I actually followed bellaboo there a couple months after reading her posts. Yelapa was relaxing and fun. The boat ride was calm for us. What surprised me, young children and no life vests. They are available, it just is a mode of transportation they take for granted, and just like my generation, not using seat belts in the 60's and 70's. We did not make reservations for the boat but you may be able to do so.

You can catch the water taxi at the Los Muertos Beach pier or at Boca de Tomatlan, no need to reserve. The schedule for the water taxis can be found here http://yelapa.info and more info. on Yelapa here http://vallartainfo.com/yelapa.html

We took the panga "to" Yelapa from Boca(a little longer, about 40 min, but more scenic as it hugs the coast). On the way back to PV we took the one strait to PV.(25 min).

I parasailed for the first time in Yelapa. Can't wait to do it again. We walked the 2 hr. walk to a the "tall" waterfall. I would recommend finding out about the closer waterfall to walk to if you want to hike with your young one. Love Brad's site: palapainyelapa.com

Belleboo - My 25 yr. old and I are going to Old Quebec City this spring for fun. Any info you want to share, you have my e-mail, or let me know here if you don't. I have yours if it is up to date.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It seems like you've all confirmed my belief that it will be a great place to visit.

The link to the web site is helpful. I've book marked it and will continue to reference it to help me finalize the trip planning.

One last question, I know the area is small and the lodging is confined to a small area but is there a section that has better lodging options for families than other areas? Some photos I've seen show a rocky shore. Is there an area that is located closer to some (safer) sandy beach?

The cove at Yelapa isn't "that" large....the rocky areas are at either ens, a minute to walk where there r no rocks. Lagunita is one of the only real "hotels". Brad has a ton of palapa rentals, some large enough to house a big family. But prob a short walk to the beach. At Lagunita you would never need to put on shoes!!! I'll post a link to another site which has a map of where things are situated.

Hi there,
I can't comment on Yelapa, but I can say that Sayulita is GREAT...and certainly family friendly. Have fun!

Biscuitboogie - once I get Yelapa figured out, I'll be looking for some good advice on the area north of PV!
