Should I go to Cabo?
My husband's brother is getting married in Cabo San Lucas in late June. We have never been to this part of Mexico before, and are trying to decide if we should go or not. We really prefer places with calm water and soft, sandy beaches (like Playa Del Carmen and the Caribbean). I would appreciate more info. from anyone that has been to Cabo! I am trying to find airfare less than the $600 each that American is charging. Any suggestions?

Well, are you going to have fun, or to congratulate the happy couple?
In any case, I think you can do better than $600, but you don't say where you're flying FROM. The Travelocity fare watcher currently shows me the following fares for Cabo San Lucas (SJD):
From DEN $235 on Frontier
From LAX $205 on American
From IAH $360 on Continental
From EWR $450 on Aeromexico
You might be able to beat these with charter flights through a travel agent, or by using an aggregator web site.
Have fun!

We will be flying from DFW.
I'd like to go to have fun, but I am concerned that the more I read, the less I see that I like. The articles say Cabo is quite expensive, and most of the beaches are rocky and not swimable. This concerns me!
The tour operators that come out of DFW do not offer Cabo as a destination. (We have MLT, AA Vacations, and Funjet.)

Hi -
We were in Cabo August of 2003, and had a fabulous time.
We booked our air through American West on Priceline (unsure if your departure City offers service).
We stayed at the MArina Fiesta for the week - it was a great location, sits right on the marina on on end, and from the front entrance if you walk 2 blocks there is a great white sand beach with restaurants, calm water & tons of sun at that time on year.
We too love the Caribbean - however that beach was great. (dont know if it had a name or not...)
Cabo has its own feel - which makes every place unique.
We went on a budget with my teenage brother and his girlfriend - and were able to stick to it.
On the thoroughfare around the marina - you find restaurants in a varieties and prices. From $4 tacos to $60 entrees.
Hope that helps.

I have been to Cabo 4 times so maybe I can help. The first thing I would do is also check for cheaper tickets! Honestly you aren't going at the prime time for Cabo because of the heat so I would think you could get a better deal. Also realize that June is Hurricane season, though they don't normally cause huge amounts of destruction. A couple years ago they got hit pretty bad and you couldn't get in or out for 2-3 weeks.
You can find decent deals but the prices are high! A bottle of water from any store will run you 3x what you pay in the US. You can find some nice places to eat for good rates but it isn't like most places in Mexico. Cabo is very Americanized so things are more expensive compared to other spots. Still I think it is a fun place and would easily go back. You just need to save extra money, maybe see if you can find an all-inclusive deal but I am not sure if they are available down there. Again the temps will be at least in the 90's and the water is nice but doesn't cool you off much because it is like 80+. There are beaches you can go out in the water but I would recommend you avoid areas where surfers go because the waves can get very big and break close to the shore.
In terms of safety it is pretty good here. All of Mexico is corrupt to some point but I never witnessed much in my trips. There are some fun clubs to party at as well as good hotels if you want to pay some good money. You can also rent apartments pretty cheap but make sure you have AC!
Well I would just save some extra money, try and get a cheaper ticket, and check it out.

I've really enjoyed my couple trips to Cabo and think it is well worth at least one visit. It is a little pricey, but doesn't have to be. For example, we rented a nice private Condo on the marina for about $70/nt in the summer. Just do your homework and it doesn't have to be outrageous.
The scenery and water are beautiful. We were able to do some nice snorkeling with a private guide for real cheap.

I would not miss the wedding! Cabo is very pretty along the marina..I did not see the beach areas as they were further out. Lover's Beach was beautiful but you have to take a water-taxi over. It can be an expensive vacation. I would only go for my husband...he loves to fish!! We brought back lots of red snapper and tuna.

We went to Cabo and had a great time, but did not like the town of Cabo San Lucas. The key is to stay in the Corridor of Los Cabos. But it will be expensive, no doubt. A visit to San Jose del Cabo, the old city, also is charming.
If you decide to go and splurge, stay at Palmilla Resort - amazing - or Ventanas al Paraiso. At Palmilla you get your money's worth w/ ocean views, huge rooms, superb service, amenities, etc. Food is expensive but excellent.
There are swimmable beaches. Palmilla has palapas on the beach. It's wonderful.
If you can't fathom spending the money for a Corridor hotel, try Casa Natalia in San Jose Del Cabo. I hear you can walk to a decent beach.
I wouldn't ever stay in Cabo San Lucas proper.

Casa Natalie was also recommended by my travel agent who typically is spot on. There is a free shuttle to a beach club from the hotel. I am going solo in February and opted out of Casa Natalie as I'm more a pool guy and prefer a large pool near the beach (e.g. corridor hotels).
