Royal Resort in Playa del Carmen

Hello, anyone stay at the Royal on 5th ave- looking to confirm how nice the beach is.

Is there lots of room for chairs and is the beach itself nice?

Most important i want to be able to walk the beach for at least a mile - if not more. is that possible?

I stayed at the Rui and a lot of that beach front was gone...due to a storm. There were sand bags there. It was disappointing. I want to make sure i can easily walk the beach at the Royal.

Rate the beach for me....I have to make a quick decision so quick feedback would be great. Thanks.

When were you at the RIU? All the beaches in the Playacar area were restored last year...no more sand bags.

Beaches in Playacar are beautiful now. I was just there last week. You can walk north of the Royal for quite some time...way more than a mile. The Royal is not on 5th Avenue, it is between 1st Ave and the beach. It has it's own beach chairs set up. If you want to go to the beach clubs, Mamitas, Kool and Cannibal are to the north and if you walk south to the pier there are many clubs in that direction also. But with the all-inclusive I don't know if that would be something you'd be interested in. I live in Playa but have not stayed at the Royal. I do walk the beaches all the time. Last week, the waves in front of the Royal were great.

Color Kid - thanks. I didn't know they restored the beach on the Rui side. I was told by a good source the Royal was lovely and the beach had not been touched (this was 3 years ago). Then i started to worry she didn't care about walking the beach and I did. I like an all-inclusive because once you get there all is paid and no real decisions make and places to find to eat out etc. Some of the reviews I was reading recently made it seem like Royal might be too close to town and others would use the Royal beach. If you think the beach is good and I can walk it then that perfect.

The shaded beds I believe are for the suite guests only...you might email them and confirm. I seem to remember seeing those signs posted on the beds. I don't recall seeing any other umbrellas on the beach for the Royal. Further north, Mamitas and Kool have umbrellas but then it kind of defeats the purpsoe of the all inclusive. Two other resorts that are north of the Royal and are on the beach (but are partial all inclusive) are Las Palapas and Mahekal (which used to be Shangri La). They are a bit more laid back than the Royal but nice beach and shade. You won't have any trouble walking the beach at any of these places. The Royal is one block from 5th avenue and is in the center of town. Great vibe to the north on 5th avenue these days. Thursday nights are Art Walk nights.

We were in Playa in December. Our hotel was right on the beach and we could see the Royal's sister resort, the Gran Porto Real. The beach has been restored in that area and is very nice.

We statyed at the Royal Playa del Carmen in 2007 two weeks after huricane Dean hit. We loved the resort. Excellant location, just a 5 minute walk to 5th Avenue, and great food. Better than several places we found on 5th Avenue. They have expanded an added another pool. We didn't have any problems with shaded beach chairs, but there was not enough umbrellas for the chairs by the pool. Hopefully, that has been updated.

Here's a picture of the beach and the Grand Porto Real in the back ground I took this past December. Behind the Grand is the Royal Playa del Carmen.
