Beach erosion in Playa del Carmen
We stayed in the Riu Mexico 2 yrs. ago & was greatly disappointed in the shallow beach. Does anyone know if this has changed or if their other property, the Riu Riviera Maya's beach is better?

Here is a recent trip review. They stayed at the Rio but I know there are several so maybe this is not the exact one.
Beaches in Playacar have been eroded for some time in certain areas. Normally you see a great deal of change in the beaches down there just from one day to the next so it's really hard to predict. The further north from Playa, especially north of the new (and illegal) pier the wider and less subject they are to changes.

Beaches are fine at Mamita's and Kool beach clubs. They are at 26th Street. A small fee will get you chairs (or beach bed)with umbrella, but get there early to reserve a spot. Did not like the techno music blaring at Kool Beach, though. Why do they think beach-goers like that?
