Going to PVR for a week the first of April. First time there. Would appreciate tips on good seafood eating and shopping (leather, silver and native things that are cool to return home with). Celebrating with best friend and college roomate a big birthday.

Marisco Polo's has great food, as does Joe Jack's Fish Shack. The ginger mojitos at JJFS are amazing!

I agree with the two suggestions above, but most restaurants in PV will have at least a few seafood items, like fresh "catch of the day" grilled filets and a shrimp dish.

Where are you staying? What part of town?

For shopping I like the south-side, Olas Altas & B. Badillo are two intersecting streets that would be an excellent place to start. Lucy's CucuCabana on Badillo is a tiny store with wonderful crafts, arts, gifts.

The Rolling Stones Leather Store on the Malecón has a big selection of leather goods.
I agree that Lucy has some great handicrafts. Mariscos Polo's has the best seafood.

Had a good shrimp lunch at Joe Jack's Fish Shack. Unfortunately did not get to Marisco Polo as the cab driver did not know where it is (highly recommend you write down the addresses from someplace like TripAdvisor in advance so this does not happen to you). Sorry, not much of a shopper so cannot help out there.

Print out the map Cabron provided in the post above. It's not hard to find Mariscos Polo's (once you know where it is -lol!)

Great information! Thanks For the food suggestions, marisco Polo sounds amazing...all of you loved. And will definitely try Rolling Stones shop..love the name. Suze I will clarify where in PV the condo is located..know you can walk to town. Any safety issues? Cabron's map is printed. Thanks. Would you get pesos + or some and use cards & $? Lucy's also is a must.

No there aren't any safety issues if you're talking about the drug cartels and stuff. Nada.

You need to be careful crossing the streets as pedestrians do NOT have the right of way downtown PV and there's tons of traffic. And the pavement, stairs, sidewalks in some places are uneven and you need to pay attention where you're walking. There is s small bit of petty crime so don't leave your wallet laying around on your beach towel or your purse on the table in a restaurant when you go to the bathroom. Just common sense.

Sunburn and hangovers are the only "dangers" I have ever personally experienced in 20 trips to date.

I asked the location of the condo only because if you're staying out north at the Marina or Nuevo Vallarta or south at Conchas Chinas, the restaurant recommendations may or may not be particularly convenient.

No safety issues, just watch where you're walking, some sidewalks can be a little rough and watch crossing the street, they did change the law several years ago, giving the pedestrian the right of way, but, unfortunately didn't publicize it very well, so many drivers are unaware of it or just don't care to follow it. Same as at an intersection with a Stop Sign, which is mostly regarded as a suggestion
Not many places accept Credit Cards, cash is king, use your ATM card to get pesos, machines all over.
