Planning stay for Canadian Friends at Salta

My Canadian friends are visiting Argentina in a few weeks. I want them to feel welcome and get a glimpse of the country, they are just staying for 12 days.
We are spending a few days in Buenos Aires and then travelling to Santiago del Estero my home city after a brief stop at Cordoba for visiting some realtives.
From Santiago del Estero we intend to travel by car to Salta going through Tafi del Valle, visiting the Amaicha museum and getting to Cafayate for a night stay. I've asked for a room at the Villa vicuña hotel to find out it was more expensive than expected. Far more than the Villa Vicuña at Salta. Can anyone recommend another hotel not so expensive?
My husband and I are travelling with our kids plus the Canadian family it is a small crowd and we hosts are paying the bills.
After spending the night at Cafayate, we are visiting the wineries the following morning and then keep travelling to Salta. We are to stay two nights there. A stroll around the city the first evening and then early to bed for the following day.
First day at Salta a ride to El cerro de los siete colores as far as we can reach. Purmamarca would be great and it implies a day tour.
The following morning maybe a visit to the MAMA museum and other places of interest and then return to Santiago in the early afternoon. I know it's a pity there is not much time left so I'd like to get some advice about my plan. Does it makes sense?
what about the villa vicuña hotel at Salta? they asked me $180 for a triplet plus $20 to add an extra bed.
thank you.

Dear tisha;
Pachamama museunm is in Amaicha del VAlle in the way to Cafayate from TAfi del Valle. In Cafayate I recommend Kalcha Killa to overnight. But a cheaper place could be Tinkunaku or Asembal Hotel.
The 7-colour mountians ( Cerrod e siete colores ) area in Purmamarca. If you make good use of time you can see Purmmarca and the salt Flats the same day. Leave Salta through Road 9, the winding road to Jujuy. It takes 1.5 hours. Brief stop in Tumbaya - see the church and the main square.
Visit Purmamarca in the morning. Drive along LOs Colorados (Beautiful!) have lunch and then drive along route 52 to the Salt Flats. (60 kms from Purmamarca to the west).1 hour to go, one hour to come back to Purmamarca and about 2.5 more hours to come back to Salta. But I recommed to overnight in Purmmarca to make a better use of your time.
Hope to be helpful. Please make any question you need. In Salta there are plenty on nice hotels and apartments to stay and feel like at home. Have a nice time.

Thank you flint, I have a few questions. Is the Pachamama museum the one on the road, the "managed" by Cruz? Because we intended to go there since I believe it will be very interesting for our friens to visit.
Also, Do you happen to have the phone numbers of the hotels suggested for staying at Cafayate? I mean K.K. and the others? I'm afraid I'm late on my preparations for the travel but family business kept me busy those days.
Also I didn't know Purmamarca was so close to Salta, and the Slat flats so close to Purmamarca so we're definitely visiting them. Do you know where can I get info about lodging at Purmamarca? do you have any phone numbers from hostels, hotels or whatever?
We'll visit Tumbaya, thanks for your suggestions. Also, where to have lunch in Los colorados? Never heard about this place. Is it a small village?
You've been very helpful, thanks a lot.

Virginia, will you look for the name of those cottages at Purmamarca? I would be very interested of staying there overnight according to your and flint's suggestion.
Also I'm running out of time. Is that the right expression? don't know if Spanish is allowed in the site but my English is not so good.Sorry.
Thanks for the help, I'll be waiting for your info.

Dear Tisha,The Pachamama museum isa geologycal and archaeological museum settled in Amaycha, between Tucuman and Cafayate. The Hostal Calcha Killa has recently been visited for some young canadian and they were happy to stay there so I think it is of the good taste of canadians as weel as Americans.
The telephone number is 0054-3868-421549 talk to MArtha Chocobar, the owner, a diaguita descendant lady who assist the clients personally.
In Purmmarca there are several ¨petit¨hotels which are not expensive but comfortable and clean. like El cardon and Pequeño Inti. They both are in downtown. Los Colorados in Purmmarca is a trail around the little town which means a beautiful walk watching a part of the 7-colours mountains.
I would suggest to start in Tucuman in the morning and to stay one noght in Cafayate, or two... I am sure you will prefer to stay more than one noght there... free tasting in wineries, goat cheese, walking...
One night in Salta I suggest Posada del MArquez or Posada del Angel...
One night in Purmamarca, visitng the Salt Flats... and the departure from Jujuy airport or Salta Airport. Do ot forget to take a day for Salta city... It is nice.
Best regards.

You should check out Papyrus Hotel in Salta...it was fabulous and about $125 for the suite including breakfast last summer.

I'd like to thank to all people willing to help in planning the holidays for my Canadian friends.
I followed your advise flint and drove to Purmamarca previous stop at Volcan market and Tumbaya. We also went to Purmamarca and the Salt Flats. Awesome.
Next time I travel with my family I want to travel even further north. I fell in love with the places and views.
At Cafayate we finally stayed at Los Sauces and I should say it is a nice place, clean, confortable and you'll be able to have a nice breakfast with a lovely garden view.
We paid $200 for cuadruplets and the beds are quite good.
That's all for now and again thank you.
