Iguana Junction versus Cahal Pech

We (a group of 4) are planning to visit Belize at the end of April maybe beginning of May. Which hotel is better Iguana Junction or Cahal Pech? We are leaning towards Cahal Pech right now but only because it has air conditioning. Does a/c really matter?

It can be really hot that time of year - I remember a travelogue with "...Survives Brutal Heat" in the subject line from April last year. We were there in August and it was really pleasant - nice to take a dip in a pool or river during the day but not insufferable at night. Which place you pick and whether ac matters or not seems like a personal decision to me, though you won't be able to predict the weather so really can't know in advance about that.

I'd prioritize more what sort of experience you're looking for. Do you want to fly into the lodge and stay put the whole time or are you interested in touring around a bit? Lots of options for canoing, caving, hiking, eating, and ruins if you pick a place that allows for that sort of exploration.

Good luck with your decision - keep us posted!

The Mayan site of Cahal Pech is right there; and it's one of my all-time favorites for setting, buildings, and ease of seeing. (And there's a new pool at CP!)

Wow, Iguana Junction sure has a lot of good reviews on that tripadvisor link. Think I'll go with them. Thanks.

You know, I was thinking maybe I could split up my 4 nights in the Cayo to 2 different hotels. I don't have a car but maybe the tour company would be willing to drop me off to a different hotel on the night I switch.

If I did that, I think I'd stay 2 nights at Iguana and themnmaybe two nights at a more remote jungle lodge.

Does that sound crazy? If not, which of these three should I pick (Table Rock, Macaw Bank, Black Rock)?

I believe May is the hottest month on average in Belize. That said, the Cayo area was not nearly as hot as the coast and we were OK with no A/C but powerful fans in May.
