Driving from San Jose del Cabo to Loreto
We are considering flying from Canada to San Jose del Cabo and then driving to Loreto.
Does anyone have any comments, suggestions, warnings?
Our initial plan is to drive to Le Paz, stay over night and then continue to Loreto the next day.
I would be most interested in what readers think of this plan.

If you do this drive, be sure to keep it to daylight hours. The road is good but it is on open range. Cattle, goats, donkeys are a hazard, particularly at night. They seem to all of a sudden just appear along the road, even during the day. It is a long lonely drive, carry water and keep gas tank topped off. Here is a link to a report on TA from someone who drove to Loreto:

We just got back from 10 days in Loreto last night. We flew LAX to Loreto on Alaska/Horizon which worked well for us since we live in California . We met people from other areas of the country who had to overnight in LA in order to do this flight.
We also met a few who were driving to/from Cabo and flying from there since the Alaska flight was booked up or did not work for them. There is also an Areo Calafia flight from Cabo to Loreto on limited days of the week.
Good luck. I will be posting a report soon

Thanks for the advice, which is pretty much what we had expected. We've been to Loreto before taking the Alaska Airlines flight but will opt to fly directly to Cabos this time.
We are set to leave on March 16th and I will post a repot.
Thanks again for the advice.

Ditto, looking forward to your report Michelle. We are heading to Loreto on March 7, will be going to San Ignacio for whales, then on a 3-day trek to see the cave paintings, then hanging in Loreto for a week. Also flying down on Horizon but overnighting in LA.

No report yet but we did a day trip to Lopez Mateo to see the grey whales. We drove about 90 minutes on good road. At the bay, pangas hold about 6 and reserve for 800 pesos for an hour. So cool! I got to touch a baby whale! He kept coming up to the panga and sticking his head out of the water, letting us touch him.
Nelson , I hope to get my report done before you leave.
