Costa Rica-Flying into Liberia/ Want to go to Arenal and Tamarindo

We are flying into Liberia and staying for 8 days. We would like to split our time between Arenal and Tamarindo or Samara. We want to know if this is reasonable. What is the best way to get from Liberia to Arenal area. Would we need to rent a car? Is this drive a difficult drive to make in August/ rainy season? Once in Arenal, we are looking at staying at the Volcano Lodge and Gardens- is this a good place to stay? We would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Have done this

mapache.com car rental best local for me

out of Liberia roads are nice paved via

Canas Tilaran round the lake to Arenal.net

Prefer tabacon.com or hotelmountainparadise.com

better located...

hotelcapitansuizo.com my fav at tamarindo.com

or tamarindodiria.com best for your beach.

more laid back remote local vibe playasamara.net

Tree House Inn nice there my fav to veg out on a beach

if that is what your want.

Happy travels!

Good answers from Qwo

Private drivers are the other option for getting from point A to B. Here is a good list of service providors here
Juan Carlos and Rubier at [email protected]
Oscar Chavarria at [email protected]
Willy at [email protected]
Wilson at [email protected].
Carlos Bagarin at [email protected]
Danny Jimenez at [email protected]
Diego and Alvaro at [email protected]

In Arenal I like Silencio Del Campo - http://www.hotelsilenciodelcampo.com/ great place, some small hot springs on the property.

In Tamarindo I'm with Qwo on Capitan Suizo, right on the beach
Cheers

The roads are beginning to get a little messy now that it is rainy season but I still think you can do it. If you have the budget for it, rent a good SUV. Prada's are the best but pricey. But boy can they go over the bumps.

This itinerary is very doable. I just had breakfast on the beach in Samara and it was lovely. So many surfers. Tamarindo has been plenty busy even with it being rainy season. I think you will have the best of both worlds, the thrill of the Arenal area followed by some fun in the sun. Safe travels.
