Best month to visit Costa Rica

Hello!
If you could pick any month to visit Costa Rica, which month would you choose, and why?
Thanks,
Marian

This is SO hard to answer! For best weather I'd have to say Dec. or January. It's just after the 'green' season so everything is still green and pretty, but it's also the most crowded and expensive time to go. For less crowds and not much rain, I'd say May, but this is just the start of the green season after a long dry season, so many beach towns are dry and dusty. But it's cheaper too.

We love Guanacaste in late June through early August. So pretty and green. The frequent clouds and occasional afternoon showers are refreshing. Not many people, although that is changing!

We just returned from our first trip to Costa Rica in August, & we loved going in August. Based on what I have read & heard, August is less crowded & less expensive than the dry season.

What everyone says about August is true: it rains every day but not all day, only for a few hours. When we were in Arenal & Central Valley, it started raining around 4:00pm & rained for 1 - 2 hours. The rain never prevented us from doing what we wanted to do. In Arenal, we saw the red lava flows 2 nights out of 3, though we may have just been lucky. In MA, it rained one morning for 30 minutes (while we were having breakfast) and it rained one night (we were there for 4 nights) and that was it! To summarize, we were happy with the weather and would definitely go again in August.

If I wanted to have the best of both, green and lush but dry with green season rates, I would come Nov. 15 - Dec. 15. You may still get a late shower but otherwise you will be past rainy season. As well, you are past summer rates, which although fall in the rainiest part of the year, are more expenive than Sept, Oct, Nov beginning Dec.

It will be lovely and lush but will definately be beach weather.

Good travelling!
