I am pasting this post here from the US board only because Wildflower mentioned she had a contact with a couple people who post on this board. So this post is for Molly and ?????

Mama, I just read your message on another thread. Is this Wildflower that recently moved to Asheville?

Starrsville or Mama,

Could you fill me in about Wildflower? We had lots of off forum discussions of places we loved to visit and our cats. Just today I was was going to contact her and then I saw Starrsville message.

I don't know. I read mama's post in the Does Your Family/Friends Think It's Weird thread and posted my question at that time.

I hope its okay to cut and paste -

I never met anyone in person from this board but met a wonderful person, Wildflower, when planning my first trip to Alaska. We exchanged many e-mails and her photo album help me decide to go on a bear watching trip.
Unfortunatley, I got e-mail from her husband just a few days ago that she passed away. She loved traveling around the world but Alaska and Seychelles were her two beloved places. I promised to send her a detailed trip report of our great trip to Alaska but never got to it. Now it's too late <<

I "talked" to Wildflower quite a bit as she was trying to plan her move down to Asheville with her cat. I'm guessing it's the same Wildflower. I am so sorry.

Maybe mama will post a reply. Hopefully, she can forward our condolences to Wildflower's husband and family.

Yes, that is the same Wildflower, and I am so sad to hear the news of her passing. She and her husband truely loved to travel, and always had several trips on the board. With her help, we had an outstanding visit in Alaska with friends of theirs and discovered some beautiful "off the beaten path" places.

I believe it was just about a year ago that they moved to Asheville, and she seemed so happy in her new environment.

I'll truely miss her comments on the forum. I plan to contact her husband, Steve, and will pass along any condolences.

I don't know any details except she was killed by a drunk stupid driver. It was just three days before her trip to Alaska. She always liked to talk with those traveling to Alaska and Seychelles and all she asked was a short trip report. I never sent her any details of our trip to Alaska and you can only imagine how I feel about it now.

How horrible to hear about this. I'll have her family in my thoughts.

There is a post from her and someone else about birdwatching in the midwest. Camping out in a blind overnight to see (herons?) migrate. Even though I have no desire to camp, she made the trip sound like a good idea.

Tragic. A sad reminder how drinking and driving can devastate the lives of all involved.

My thoughts are prayers are with her family.

Just so sad.

Please, Don't drink and drive - use a designated driver.

I am so sad to hear this news. I remember here posts about alaska fondly and used some of her info to help plan my trip.

Just reminds us all to appreciate the time we have. My heartfelt condolences go out to all her friends and family.

I never had much contact with Wildflower as I haven't traveled yet to Alaska. However, it is always so sad to lose a fellow Fodorite. Drinking and driving never leads to anything good. What a waste. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

What sad news to hear! Surely many who frequently post on this board remember Wildflower. She was a great help to many people. I looked back at one of her posts entitled:

Places We Loved in Costa Rica: Rants and Raves

It was posted in January of last year. I know that Molly2 and Neta will both be very sad to hear of Wildflower's death. I especially enjoyed reading once again her review of Hotel Savegre which has come to be one of my favorite places in Costa Rica. It was there that Molly2 and I met in June of last year.

Wildflower's enthusiasm for living is an inspiration to all of us and a reminder of the precious gifts of love and life.

Thank you, Mama, for sharing this sad news with us. What a tremendous loss for everyone who was touched in large and small ways.

Words fail me. Wildflower and I developed a long-standing correspondence after she gave me some excellent advice about travel to Costa Rica, including a glowing recommondaion for Savegre, where shillmac and I met. Pictures followed, and when we discovered that we lived a short distance from each other, we had even more to talk about.

Wildflower periodically updated me on the sale of her land in the east and her purchase of land near Ashville. after a few initial trepidations, she seemed so very happy with the move.

I assumed that the reason she never answered my last e-mail was that she was happily involved in the building of her new home and exploring the outdoors, which she loved.

Wildflower, if you are listening, you will be remembered.

I knew who wildflower was the minute I saw her name. What sad news. She and I corresponded several times and I respected her opinions greatly (although she did get me into a little hot water with El Remanso LOL). Her postings on her travels will be missed.

My husband and I have fallen in love with a place that she recommended. so much so that we are actually considering buying 100 acres right next door. we are planning another trip down there in November to look it over and to visit with our new friends. I will certainly remember her every time I go.

My heartfelt regards to her family and friends.

Is Wildflower's first name Gina? I'm trying to figure out if this is the same person that I'm thinking of. I enjoyed her posts on the Africa board. Sorry to hear of the sad news.

Yes, Patty. I believe that "Gina" and "Wildflower" were one and the same person. Thanks, Mama, for bringing the sad news to our attention.
