Where to stay in CR for 1 week without changing hotels

I am traveling with husband and two adult children. We don't want a week of just beach- we want to hike, see things, adventure tours, etc.
I am not sure which area of CR would be best for ease of getting around and also what airport to fly into.
Travel agent recommended the Hilton and Marriott in Guancaste.
Thank you!

The Arenal area is great for hiking and adventure tours. You can do a volcano hike, a waterfall hike, and hike at the Hanging Bridges. Check out Sunset Tours and Desafio for adventure activities. Rios Tropicales is good for rafting and Sky Trek for ziplining. We like the Cano Negro tour to see wildlife. The Penas Blancas river float is fun too. We always fly into SJO.

If you did want some beach time, Manuel Antonio is very popular.

Do you like areas that are a little more built up with more tour and dining options or do want a little more local feel and off the beaten path? What's your nightly budget? What time of year are you going? Do you want luxury, rustic or in between?

These types of details can help us give you advice tailored more to you.

You can stay at a Hilton or Marriott anywhere. Why not try a local lodging that isn't a chain?
