What are the beaches like in Montezuma, CR?
This January my boyfriend and I are planning a trip and considering Ylang Ylang in Montezuma. YY looks amazing and I love that they have yoga and organic food, and that the area isn't built up (ie: no giant resorts/chains).
However, I've never been to a beach with beautiful, clear, calm waters. Do you know what the beaches are like there? Or any other places with beautiful waters that are still pretty low key?
Thank you!

Beaches are dark instead of light colored, and flat out gorgeous.
Some parts are rockier than others, and riptides are a danger anywhere on the Pacific ocean, so it's not like the Caribbean.
But, Ylang Ylang is a fantastic, romantic place and the Montezuma area is a fantastic place to hang out and explore the beach and do some boogy-boarding as well as some inland hiking.

Ylang Ylang is wonderful, Montezuma is a fun, funky town, the area offers a lot of great activities, and the beaches are beautiful in a rugged, natural way. I, however, didn't find the waters in February to be clear and calm. The surf was fairly strong - fun for playing in the waves.
Another area you could look into would be near Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side. I'm not sure what the surf would be like in January, and there would likely be some rain, but the beaches are also beautiful and it's definitely not built up. Montezuma is nice, clear water, white sand. Montezuma is an incredibly beautiful area. MOntezuma and the Nicoya peninsuala is one of the the most developed for tourism. The towns are gringo friendly, but lack much authentic flavor.
Manuel Antonio is beautiful and has a lot to do but doesn't have a white beach. My favorite beaches are Samara and its neighboring beaches--just gorgeous but no white sand

Montezuma is a laid back and fairly hippy town. There are plenty of places where the beach is deserted if you are willing to walk a little. Samara is beautiful as is Uvita, but for undeveloped, the Caribbean coast is the more obvious choice. Manzanillo is a quaint little fishing village with a reserve stretching for miles of rocky coastline but has a sandy beach where the village is situated. Cahuita's national park is a gem too.
