Hi Susan! I paid a quick visit to Mérida 5 years ago and stayed at Las Arecas, good location and value, at least at the time:

I 2nd arriving at Chichén Itzá as it opens if you choose to visit there - the place was deserted when we got there and we had plenty of time to explore with virtually no one in our photos, as noted above; we were staying in Valladolíd so were only about 20 minutes away. We enjoyed interacting with the vendors as they were setting up, no pressure. Still not 1 of my favorite Maya sites out of the 20 or so we've visited. LOVED Ek' Balam.
Happy trails!

sorry to be dense, but I'm asking if there's a time difference between Merida and Cancun. I don't see that information on the link you supplied. When I googled "time difference between Merida and Cancun," it appeared to be the same time in both places, so I wondered if the time difference Jeff mentioned above is just seasonal (like Daylight Savings Time in U.S.) and if it's in effect in January. I need to be able to tell hotel in Merida approximately what time we'll be arriving.

Once at the web site, you could check the section on time zone changes in Cancun and Merida. Or use its time zone converter. or time zone differences calculator.... Or just ask your hotel in Merida. ;-)

It's a seasonal thing. The state of Quintana Roo (Cancun) observes Eastern STANDARD time year round, with no DST. The state of Yucatan (Merida) observes Central time and does have DST for part of the year. That means in January, Merida will be one hour earlier than Cancun. They are the same time now.

Here's a handy time converter. You'll see that I put in merida and Cancun.

It's a good website, but it still doesn't address the matter of what the times will be in January. That was Nepheline's question. Merida will be one hour earlier than Cancun at that time of year.
