video: Nebaj to Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala
Hi Guys,
Myself and 3 friends have just uploaded episode 26 of our current trip through central & south America.
This episode we travel from Nebaj (after some hiking up in the Cuchumatan Mountains) to San Pedro (Lago de Atitlan) and take a 5 day Spanish language course.
If anyone is interested to check out what we got up to the video and story is available here: http://www.planetkapow.com/1697
Cheers,
Adam

Not sure why it does that. If you pick #26 from the list on the right it works:

Hopeful,
Yes, I still would love to take him. I just went to Guatemala last month ( with a friend) and will be going on Saturday with a group of friends. I may have to take a break from Guatemala for a while but with my son starting school I wanted to get a few trips in while I could. I know my travel life will change once he is in school. I guess I will just have to make more travel plans for the summer. When are you going next?

Yes - not my favorite part of Guatemala. It's a good way to break up a road trip to Tikal if you have a few days. The town itself is just a widespot on the highway, not much to see. There are some jungly options for lodging (heat and bugs) but there are other places for that, too, if it's a priority. The boat trip down the river and back is beautiful but not worth the few days (or 2 nights on either side so you have that full day) if it means missing time in the highlands or around the ruins in northern Guatemala imo. Livingston is a different sort of place than the rest of Guatemala, interesting in that way. I'm really fond of some other Garifuna towns I've visited in Belize and Honduras and it didn't compare well to those but I had a delicious tapado soup there; when I ate down a ways there was a whole fish peeking up at me through the broth, fins, teeth, eyes and all.
There's a photo set in the 2007 collection below. Happy trails!

Hopeful,
I hope that I like Rio Ducle more then you did. I am going on the advice of a friend from Guatemala who insists it's his favorite place..so I guess we will see on Sunday.. I will let you know. I just got back not even a month ago from Antigua and the lake. It was such a wondeful experience being there for the Easter celebrations.
I wanted to try something new this time. We are going to kayak, hike, horseback ride ect. I am going with a group of friends so I am sure we will have a good time anyway. I will put the tapado soup on my list of things to try.. ( maybe that will be a shared item since I doubt any of us would enjoy that whole fish looking at us).
We will also be spending a couple of days in Antigua which I always look forward to.

Oh - now I feel badly I dissed it.
I think since you're going on a focused trip there you'll discover joys I haven't experienced in my brief visits. The river area is really beautiful as you can see from my photos - can't wait to hear about your trip!

Hopeful,
No worries, you were just being honest and that is what this forum is for.
I will make sure to let you know how it goes. We are staying at what looks like a lovely place with good food so at least we have that going for us!

Which place? I did some research before I stayed there last time. We decided to forego a jungly place for a convenient spot near the bridge in Las Fronteras which ended up being a good choice for us since we were just staying 2 nights sandwiched between longish bus trips.
