Tulum and Chiapas?

Hello. My husband and I have 11 days to spend in Mexico over Christmas. We definitely want to go to Tulum to chill out for part, but we think we should combine this with another location so we don't get too bored. Does anyone have any suggestions? We had our heart set on San Cristobal, but there are no direct flights from Cancun to there so it;s not really feeling feasible.

What other areas could we explore with Tulum? We're looking for offbeat and/or more off-the-beaten track suggestions. Thanks.

There is so much to do around Tulum - you can easily spend 11 days. We stay for 10 days every summer.

Get some maps from cancunmap.com - the Riviera Maya map and Chichen Itza map. They are excellent guides as well as maps.

Look at the monthly spotlights on locogringo.com for more ideas.

Hope you have reservations...most of the best Tulum hotels are soldout such as Ana y Jose and La Conchita.

I never did ask....
What do you like to do?
Explore towns?
Ruins?
Eco-adventure?
Spas?

We like poking around in little towns. Also biking, hiking, stuff like that. Mostly I don't want to feel like we're too isolated in a little resort area. That's why I'd like to take the time to visit somewhere else.. to get more of a feel for the area.

If you have a passport, you could take the bus down to the border and head to Belize for part of your trip. From Tulum, it's an easy three hour bus ride to Chetumal at the border. Right across the border is Corazol, Belize.
