Traveling to San Miguel de Allende

Hi: I'm looking for suggestions on traveling to San Miguel de Allende. Which airport do folks prefer (Mexico City, Leon, Queretaro)? Right now, I'm learning toward flying to Mexico City and taking the bus to San Miguel. This will be for winter 2018. Thanks for any thoughts.

I have flown in/out of Leon the last couple of trips and then used a car service to San Miguel which takes roughly 1-1/2 hours.

Leon and Queretaro are essentially equidistant from San Miguel.
If you opt for MEX, Primera Plus leaves directly from the airport, but only goes to Queretaro. From there, you'd either have to take a taxi, Uber, shuttle, or another bus. Another option would be (from MEX) going to the DF norte station, then a bus all the way to San Miguel. Primera Plus goes direct, ETN has 2 brief stops, but no bus change. Or, services such as Bajiogo have shared or private shuttles from MEX, likewise from QRO and BJX.

I might add a sometimes overlooked option when flying into QRO, that of spending a first night in Bernal before moving on to SMA. It's only about 15-20 minutes from QRO, and it's a charming, small mountain town, with a number of nice hotels and some good restaurants. Busy on the weekends, quiet midweek.

Thanks for the feedback. This is helpful as I explore options particularly on the bus routes.

Not sure where you're flying in from but we took a domestic flight into QRO. We had a reserved limo service waiting for us. I think the ride to SMA was less than 1 1/2hrs. Very easy.
