Travel times/cost from Playa Herradura, CR

Thinking about staying at the Marriott at Playa Herradura in Sept. -- first trip to CR. Saw where transport from SJO airport to Marriott is $100 USD each! Is this true? Are canopy zip line excursions, Arenal, etc. possible as day trip or best to book hotel near attraction?
Appreciate any sense of travel time/cost for getting around CR. Car rental good idea?
THANKS!!!

That price sounds about right as it runs about $120 from SJO to Manuel Antonio which is not too far south of there. A day trip to Arenal would be a long day, it's probably 3-4 hours from where you are staying, so a lot of time will be on the road.

You can use interbus to get around cheaply between many of the towns or rent a car if you don't mind driving.

I am an expat and have lived in this region for more than 15 years. I am a VIP tour guide. I specialize in sports fishing., but am familiar with all the tourist activities in Costa Rica. I like to help other people (no VIP)and would like to share my experience in this forum

hi,
for the transportation,i recommande you to rent a car.in this country you can find little local no too expensive cia.if not a day with a driver is 150$
the taxi from SJO airport to marriot is betwen 120$-140$.i know cause i am going very often with fisherman to los suenos.
around the marriot you have plenty attraction canopy, ariel tram, excursions and more (in Jaco)
to go Arenal is not a good idea from marriot too far.you can stay one night in San Jose and take a one day tour.or rent the car and sleep in la fortuna.
my advice after 18 years around is rent a car (local cheaperand no hidden),and have fun.the driving here is not so bad.

Yes you are correct about the price...it will start at $90.00 up...depends on car...bilingual driver...legal driver...good tires...etc.

Some body is promoting you to rent the car and hire a driver...it sounds good when you can rent a big car or van...but if you are 3 plus people and a driver...in a little Yaris...it will be a horrible situation! Almost any decent car with insurance starts at $ 55.00 plus the driver...a good clean bilingual driver

sorry I press the wrong key!! any way..a good clean driver...with a good driving record...will cost you around $ 50 up if you find one DECENT!!...plus gasoline and driver expenses...and in a long day of driving...once you get to your destination...you have to pay most of the time for the driver hotel and meals...or his way back home!!

At the end is more than $200.00 a day...and still have a guy seating looking at you...because he is only making $ 50.00 a day!! Of course a nice fat tip...is a must!!

A day trip to Arenal is about 4 hours...to much driving...if you do it ...spend the night there!! A lot more fun!!

Just buckle up and enjoy the ride in paradise!!

Thanks for the input on Arenal. If we DO NOT include that in a 4 day visit, are there closer canopy tours of the rainforest? Does interbus go from Playa Herradura to MA? or do we do a tour from the Marriott?
THANKS-

Is one canopy tour in or near jaco...check with the hotel about a Tour to Manuel Antonio...then ask for private service...then if Interbus can pick up there!! Then you can see what is more convininet for your budget and your taste!!

This would depend on how many people are in your group. On average an airport transfer from the airport in San Jose to Los Suenos Marriott runs between $85-$100, Gas is very expensive in Costa Rica.

One of the best Canopy tours in the country is located 10 minutes from the Marriott at Los Suenos in Harradura Beach. If you are going to Arenal from Herradura, plan on making it an overnight stay as it's 4 hours from the Los Suenos Marriott.

You are welcome to contact me at [email protected] as I get very good discounts on airport transfers andall of the area tours such as Canopy, ATV, and White Water rafting.

Pura Vida!
