travel agent for flight to BA?

Hi - I'm about to book my flight to Buenos Aires from New York for mid November (decided to go at the last minute!). I'm seeing fares online for about $800 r/t. I'm ready to book, but am also considering using a travel agent to help me book the rest of the trip. Will there be any advantage (cost or otherwise) to me booking the whole trip (including NY-Buenos Aires RT flights) with the travel agent rather than booking the int'l flight and certain other items (BA hotel for instance) on my own?

Many thanks!

Sorry for the double post. I didn't see my post appear for a while and thought I'd posted it incorrectly.

Book the NYC to BA with your agent but use a BA agent for the rest of the trip as they get better prices than foreigners. There are a few names often recommended on this board or on Trip Advisor.

MaeT:

We used a local agent to fly Edmonton Canada to [ultimatly] Buenos Aires and return.

We were in Chile and Argntina for 9 weeks and used an agent out of Buenos Aires for all our South American time.

This included internal travel by bus, tour, cruise and air. The agent worked with one in Santiago and provided us with hotel, tours, and in addition to the transport and transfers, one special Chilean dinner. We were very satisfied.

My experience was that the agent [Argentina Escapes] knew most of the stops we had chosen to visit so that was our advantage. I do believe that we got better pices because of Mercedes at Argentona Escapes than we could of as 'gringos'.

No doubt all agents are not created equal but we were very satisfied and will use Mercedes again.

Good luck.

Thanks very much for sharing your experience. I think I will use an Argentinian TA, if only to save some time and rely on their deeper experience. Even still, I'm sure I'll be back with more question!

I do not think you need a Argentina travel agent to get you airfare from NYC to Buenos Aires. Might help if you wanted to fly Aerolineas. Having a BA travel agent for your in country needs is quite helpful. I can highly recommend Isabel at Buenos Aires Tours.
