Has any one been to Todos Santos? Is it worth the drive from Cabo San Lucas?

Hi-did that trip a few years ago when we were in Cabo...we had planned to go to a famous dining spot...got there after long, long drive up the coast and found it was closed on Tuesday...but we found the famous "Hotel California".... It is a scenic(?) drive up the coast along the Pacific, they tell me there are whales off the beach, I didn't see any....BUT if you go make sure you get back to Cabo while it is still light--there are no lights on the road.. It looks like a charming town...oh yes, we did eat at a local cafe.... My husband still laughs about that trip...all the way up and the place was closed!!!!!

To set the record straight, the Hotel California referred to in the song is NOT the one located in Todos Santos. For some reason this myth has lingered around and it is good for tourism.

Well Pancho, you couldn't tell it by us....they were playing the music very loud and constant and had hats and shirts with Hotel California imprinted on them....Parrot Pop was just thinking about the place the other night and wished he had bought a cap!!

You must!!!! drive up to Todos Santos. If you consider yourself a traveller and not a tourist this is a drive up an unspoiled part of the western Baja where you will see cattle, people and vultures on the road. Enjoy the arts, crafts and Spanish/Mexican town, eat at the Cafe Sante Fe. GO!

Parrot Mom:

Like I said, it has been good for tourism and they have really capitalized on this myth. Mexicans are great opportunists ( I know, I am one ) and there are no laws to prevent it.

Thank you Parrot Mom, Pancho and Melanie for your information. I guess we will have to give it a try and see for ourselves. Gracias.

Johnny:

If you have time, you should plan on visiting La Paz. It is my favorite place in Mexico.

Well Pancho and all....we really had wanted to go to La Paz, but were told by other tourists that came down that way in a RV caravan that there were banditos (Police) along the road demanding bribes--so we passed on that trip...but we really enjoyed looking for whales on the road up (none), the scenery and the countryside..oh yes, I think I told you we did eat in a little local spot... and do you know what...if I go back to Cabo San Lucas...I would try it again, Todos Santos that is.... What is that Mexican saying that goes-once you have sand of Mexico on your feet it goes to your heart--or something like that...and except for Americanized Cancun I would go back....in a heart beat
