Tipping in Cancun

Hi WantSun, (Don't we all!)
You will find Cancun to be extremely Americanized.
If you tip as you would in the States, your service will be great, and you will be most popular!
Just a couple of additional pieces of info - many of the tour buses are an all day affair, and there is usually beer (and water and soda) on board. The bus driver kind of acts as a bartender, so we generally give him more of a tip as he has to put up with a busload of tourists who are tired and cranky by the end of the day.
Have fun!

Cancun is an island about 16 miles long and they have buses going both ways all day (more during the day than at night) for about 50 cents per trip, cabs are btween 8$ to 15$, I usually take cabs at night when buses are not as often. I will recommend going to Chichen Itza it about 3 hours from Cancun but it worht it if you like Mayan ruins. Concierge and Bell boy as Nancy said tip them just like if you were in US. Restaurants, I suggest you go to Maria Bonita on sunday, that's the only day when they have brunch, you can sample several mexican dishes and the price is just above of what you will pay for a single dish on a regular night. Another favorite for Mexican food is La Destileria, great food and great selection of Tequila, you can do a Tequila tasting and don't forget to try it with sangrita. I hope this helps.

We always take along a little gift of nice scented soap or bath salts for our chamber maids as well. And we tip them too with whatever small change we have each morning. Just place anything for the maids on your pillow in the morning. They appreciate it greatly and you will get extra service.
