Oh, swimming ...

Hm. There's snorkeling at Xel-Ha. Lovely.

In the evening, tequila shots and a wet t-shirt contest is customary.

Either X-HA or Xcaret is nice. I prefer Xcaret since they have an underground river and several lagoons. Also try Aqua World. They have snorkle trips and a semi-submarine. Maroma Beach in Playa del Carmen also has activities.

Take the ferry to Isla Mujeres and walk to the north beach area where the waves are smallish. The best swimming and sunsets are there.

If budget isn't an issue, you might check out one of the Dolphin/Shark encounters at the aquarium in the La Isla shopping center.

It's been 5 years since we've been there, but we loved Isla Mujeres..a short boat ride from Cancun. You can rent a cart and drive the island & spend the day. We didn't rent the cart, but we had a cabbie take us everywhere and even asked him to meet us back at a particular place at a given time and he was there. The main beach (Norte ?) is crystal clear as far as you can see. Very laid back. Does any recent Cancun travelers know if the Great Snorkel adventure (?) that operated out of Pat O'Brien's (Cancun) is still running? If they are, I'd highly reccomend them over the tours you get thru the hotels. Our family had a blast with them!
