funnest in CR though not cheapest
per Hopefulist's excellent posting
If you are on a budget shop around
In CR www.montanalinda.com best at a good price
in a nice location though no beach like Tamarindo.
Happy Hunting,

Montaña Linda is one of the cheaper schools in Costa Rica but it would be $240/week for 3 hours/day in a group in the summer when I travel (as opposed to 1-on-1 which I hugely prefer) and the homestays are 6 nights instead of 7 and 2 meals/day instead of 3. I typically pay $150/week for more in Guatemala, plus Guatemala has massively larger amounts of cultural appeal for me. Just my 2 cents' worth...
I think the Orosi Valley (where Montaña Linda is located) would be a good immersion environment, though. Beachy areas tend to nnot be since they attract more tourists and English speaking tourist infrastructure.

I would also look at Samara Beach. There is a language school there (a branch of one in Heredia) and it is somewhat cheaper than others. Plus Samara is a nice place to be.
It really depends on whether you want to be at the beach or in the mountains. They each have their own special appeal.

Why only those two locations? Why not checkout Cartago or Puntarenas? (e.g. http://costaricabeauty.com/viewprofi...-Linda-&-OTIAC or http://costaricabeauty.com/viewprofi...scuela-del-Sol )
There's a lot of different schools and some of them mix Spanish with other cultural learning. I would recommend the beach, especially since you'll be in Costa Rica. Heredia is nice and safe, but it can't match the beach.

I am looking at spanish schools that offer college credit. The school in Tamarindo and Heredia offer credit through Brookhaven college in Texas. Thanks for the input, I will check in to the other recemmondations.

Check out www.liveandlearninlatinamerica.blogspot.com . The credit comes from Heritage Institute/Antioch University Seattle; your son would have to be sure (in any case) that his university would accept the credit. Let me know if this option appeals or if you have questions.
