As far as the weather goes, I just returned from this area a couple weeks ago and it is pretty warm. Shorts will be okay in the evenings.

Shorts. No need for a sweater. Possibly, one pair of long pants. Let me qualify that --- if you have any long pants that would be suitable for hiking or rafting, it can be preferable to protect your legs from mosquitoes. Overall the dress code in CR is very casual.

When I was in MA, it was all about the beach or hiking thru the Manuel Antonio forest.

Regarding temperature....due to its location Costa Rica has pretty constant temps year round. The main difference would be in the rainfall. In the higher altitudes, like Monteverde, it can get cold at night.
Manuel Antonio is in a hot and humid area and remains this way year round with more humidity during the rainy season.
I believe Rio Savegre and Rio Naranjo are the two rivers you can go on from Manuel Antonio. You can take a look at the Rios Tropicales web site. They are an excellent company and I have rafted with them many times. They have all the rivers listed with info on all on their web site.

We had fun doing the Chiclets Canopy Tour in Playa Hermosa (between MA & Jaco) when we were in CR in November. It seemed very safe, and the views were great. However, don't expect to see much wildlife on the canopy tours--all the noise and commotion scares the animals away. I am afraid of heights and didn't think I was going to be able to do it at first, but the only part I found truly frightening was walking across a swinging metal suspension bridge (going across the zipline was fine).
