sightseeing Cancun
This is my last question I swear......
I'd l;ike to do some sightseeing and other activities while I'm in Cancun. While booking my flight/hotel, I have the option of signing up for various day long activities. I'd like to do maybe 2 of them. I can go to Isla Mujeres, Chichen Itza, Tulum and Xel-Ha, Xcaretm or go horseback riding in Cancun from Rancho Dos Amigos. Which ones would anyone recommend?

Having been to Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres, and Xel-ha, I would highly recommend Isla Mujeres. It is a beautiful island with a lot of little shopping sites with inexpensive goods. The North-West side of the island has a relaxing beach where you can walk a hundred yards into the ocean without any waves. I though Xel-Ha was over-rated. Chichen-Itza was sweet, but it'll take the whole day and it's hot. Take water.

We were in Cancun just last April. I truly advise you to go to Chichen Itza on one of the buses which stays for the late night lazer show. It is spectacular. The bus trip was about 3 hours. We left at 8 am and traveled through some small towns and stopped. We also had a late lunch at a quaint villa with local entertainment. It's a wonderful full day excursion. Hope you consider this.
Another trip we really enjoyed was Xcaret - excellent snorkeling here. Something different was we took the bus to the public ferry and was about to take the ferry to Isla Mujeres for a day of snorkeling & scooter riding. Some locals offered us a snorkeling trip with lunch for $10. There were 10 of us on his boat. This was the best snorkeling we had and the lunch was fantastic. Give it a try for adventure

Chichen Itza first. Yes, it will take a day. Agree with Paul about taking lots of water. Chichen Itza was about the hottest place I have been, other than perhaps Merida. I would choose Isla Mujeres by a slim margin over Tulum, but why not both? Tulum has a nice beach, along with the ruins. You can take the boat over to Isla Mujeres for just a few dollars on your own. No need to sign up anywhere. Tulum is two hours away, and you can see it through tours (not sure how long they allow for wandering or relaxing on the beach) or by taking a bus from Cancun to the Tulum Ruinas bus stop (across the street from the ruins). Xel-Ha is actually quite fun for a change of pace, but I wouldn't put it up there with Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres, or Tulum. I love Playa Norte, the main beach on Isla Mujeres. Check out my travelogue at www.oneeyed.homestead.com if you want more details and a few photos from each place.
