Shipping advice please 🙏

Hello, I have been travelling for 5 months (USA & Mexico) and plan to continue travelling for another 5-7 months (Mexico & Canada).

I would really like to lighten my bag by sending a box of belongings (that I would like to keep) back home to the United Kingdom.

I have searched online a lot, for affordable (under £100) options and I am finding nothing. DHL/UPS/FedEx are quoting upwards of £180 for 30cm x 30cm x 20cm box 2kg. Which is smaller than I would like and very expensive.

The Mexican postal service has a reputation for being unreliable so I don’t want to take the chance. Does anyone know if it is possible to ship a box by sea from Mexico/Canada/USA? I’m happy for it to take months to get delivered - speed is not a priority.Or any other methods to send?

I saw someone online saying that the cheapest way to ship internationally is to check the box in as luggage on a flight, unfortunately I do not plan to fly home anytime soon….

Any advice or recommendations much appreciated. I am expecting responses of “it’s not possible, unless expensive” hoping I have missed what I am looking for.

Best wishes!

I'd choose items to send home that would not be disastrous for you if lost them & just use the post office. I've shipped boxes by sea from all over the world including countries not known for reliability and everything has arrived. Not to say yours would be guaranteed to but take a chance. I know how it feels to be weighed down with STUFF, and for me the thought of losing the things came in 2nd to being relieved of it.

Hi thank you for your reply! I actually checked online today and using the national post office is significantly cheaper - for some reason I assumed it would be more expensive than the big global companies like DHL. And you’re right - anything im not going to be drastically sad about being lost, take my chances because it’s either: take a chance, pay £150+ or give the stuff away.

Thank you for backing that idea!
