Sheraton Cancun

Is the Sheraton Hotel in Cancun as bad as the reviews? Rooms nasty? Beach pretty? Help!

Beach is very pretty, rooms are nothing to write home about (they are small and there are no balconies even on the ocean side). The pool is not the biggest but it's nice and it has a swim-up bar--but didn't like the location because there is no view of the ocean from it (it's located behind the hotel).

Why Cancun? It is a hideous strip of concrete hotels and shopping malls, althought the beach is nice. The hotels in Playa del Carmen have much nicer architecture and vegetation. The gardens are very green Cancun has no vegetation.

I agree that Cancun is large and commercialized but it does have it's good points and I just hate it when people generalize. To say that Cancun has no greenery is just not true. Cancun hotels are meticulously landscaped and there's usually a lot of greenery and flowers scattered throughout. In fact even though a lot of the hotels are huge, they have beautiful architecture and marble through out...they're fabulous. So, honey, get it straight and stay in Playa Del Carman all you want. I like that too but don't be so general with your bashing.

The Tower rooms all have balconies and some of the rooms in the main buildings too. I've stayed there twice (although not recently) and had balconies both times. Tower room was definitely better though.
