It depends on how much luggage we have when we go and we have more than just a small luggage.
jamie99, I understand what you are saying. All I tried to say was that you rarely pay for your first check-in luggage in Europe, so why do they need to charge here? And yes, I have traveled a lot, and I mean a lot throughout the years so this ain't my first rodeo.

jamie99 - Do you that a lot of things have changed through complaining? Not saying this is the case in my case, but the crap that's going on wit more and more people being upset with the airlines will continue if nobody does anything! Sitting on your butt doing nothing will certainly NOT help! Those are the airlines' favorite customers - pay and shut up!

I wouldn't say anything if it was a domestic flight, or would have some understanding, but unless Mexico has been annealed to the US lately, this is an international flight. An for some reason to Mexico City your allowed one piece of luggage to be checked in, but not to Cancun and other parts of Mexico. Does it make sense for the customers? If I travel business class over a weekend I can do iy! And those who travel in Business Class can most likely afford the charge better than the rest of us!

#1: I always pay to check in one suitcase going to and from Mexico $25 on Alaska Air) so $50 total. Nothing strange about that.
#2: What I was suggesting was *IF* you and your wife were able to go down carry-on only there would be no luggage fee.
Then you'd only be paying 1-way for a box or extra suitcase of the additional things you purchased for the trip home.
IF you need to check one suitcase going, and two suitcases coming home then yes $35 x 3 = $105.

I think what we have here is a combination of failure to communicate, combined with don't confuse me with the facts. And then there's the proviso at the beginning, "All serious answers are welcome." I freely admit, I'm no longer serious.

I realize that. Not sure why.
Bottomline is that mailing packages out of Mexico is expensive and (depending on what type of service you use) not necessarily reliable.
Mine IS a serious answer ;-)

. . . Plus the WHOLE premise that he has never been charged for luggage in Europe is ludicrous. the majority of European airlines charge for checking anything. easyJet, Ryan Air, Air Berlin, GermanWings, FlyBe, Norwegian etc etc etc (these airlines carry more passengers w/i Europe than the 'legacy' airlines) . . .

"Ludicrous? I have never been charged while in Europe. Sorry if you don't believe me, but that is the fact. In the past 3 years I've been there approx. 8 times."
From reading your posts I assumed you were European - or at least not American. if you are talking about the legacy airlines transatlantic <B>TO</b> Europe, then yes, many don't charge for the first checked bag (in coach -- in the front of the plane they are more generous)
But you posted "<I><blue>And let me tell you, no airline i Europe charges for the first luggage! NONE!</i></blue>" which is simply not true. They almost ALL charge on flights within Europe.

It really doesn't matter what other airlines do. You're going to Mexico this time. There's nothing complicated about this question... or answer. You'll be paying to check your bags. How many you check is up to you!
If you choose to have stuff shipped from Mexico (DHL, FedEx, post office, etc.) it certainly is possible (I've done it) but it won't be a big money savings over using the airlines. Plus taking things with you is more secure.

US airlines (most) used to let you have one free checked bag, but this is no longer the case they imposed check bag fees a few years ago. Since I refuse to bite off my nose to spite my face by refusing to fly to Mexico, I just accept it and pay it.

<thus should accept one check in bag per person. Don't you think?>
Nope. I always have to pay to check luggage between Seattle and Puerto Vallarta (I fly either US Air or Alaska Air). It's been like that for many years now.
