Santiago Chile Hotel Recommendation

I have found many recommendations for hotels in Buenos Aires on this site, but very little information on Santiago hotels. I prefer 4-5 star quality, location in the central historic area. Thanks for your suggestions.

We stayed at Hotel Carrera, upscale, center of town. Check out <http://www.channels.nl/92015.html>

The Hotel Carrera is in a very good location with the Government Buildings right across the street. You can ask for a room with this view and the plaza. Watched all the pomp and circumstance of the changing of the guard from my window one day. The other time I went down to the square to see it from ground level. A good location overall.

My husband & I will be going to Santiago in late Sept and need some recommendations on hotels. My choice is between Plaza San Francisco (which I already made a reservation at US$110/night) and Carrera which is highly recommended here. Has anyone stayed at Plaza San Francisco before and how was the experience?

Any information about the hotels in Santiago will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Klam,. I thing the Carreras is a good choice, another good one, where we stayed is a five stars, not to big hotel called
Hotel Santiago Park Plaza
I think it belongs to Leading hotel of the world, or one of these upscale groups,
they offer some promotions, making it ver attractive is you are lucky getting one of them.

Good luck. Great buffet breakfast. Excellent.

I stayed at the Plaza San Francisco last December. While my room was very nice, a junior suite, I didn't care much for the location. Not bad, but not in as good a location as the Carrera is said to be located.

Unfortunately, I made the deciding factor on my stay based upon the fact that the PSF had a jacuzzi in their junior suites and the Carrera did not. The "jacuzzi" turned out to be nothing more than a regular bathtub with jets. I wanted this because my visit was right after running the Vina Del Mar Marathon.

My suggestion would be to go with The Carrera or possibly even to consider the newly opened Ritz Carlton (not yet opened when I was there last December).

Good luck.

How about the Hotel Kennedy? I was told it was a 5 star hotel, but half the price of the Hyatt, which is right across the street.
