San Telmo flea market
Has anyone been to the antiques/flea market in San Telmo? I am leaving this Friday and it seems like fun (I loved the area on my last visit). Is it for real? Are there other crafts fairs that anyone knows about (been to El Tigre already).
Thanks!

There is a craft fair on the weekends in the park surrounding Recoleta Cemetery. Vendors sell paintings, photos, t-shirts, jewelry, knitwear, and crafts. It is very "hippie." If you are looking for fake Louis Vuitton or Prada bags, this isn't the venue.

I have b een many times at the San Telmo Market but not recently. Traditionally it is an antique market it used to be lots of fun and there are also many shops in the nearby area many in the same plaza. It is worth a visit. As far as I know it is mainly antiques.

Thank you! I've also dug up stuff on the Recoleta crafts fair, it is at La Recoleta Cultural Center on the weekends.
I wouldn't know a Vuitton or Prada bag if it came up and introduced itself to me, so I don't see that as a problem!

Just returned from BsAs on Monday, and spent the better part of my day Sunday at the Plaza Dorrego market in San Telmo......which I'm sure is what you're referring to. Lots of the shops along Calle Defensa between Plaza De Mayo and Plaza Dorrego are open (and auto traffic is "essentially" prohibited)...so that walk is a pleasant one to take on your way to the San Telmo fair.
Once there, I found the best values to be in silver, some leather, and lots of "old" (antique maybe!) glassware. Weather was great, so it was reasonably crowded, but started to thin out a bit around 3pm or so.
My best guess is that the vast, vast majority of the folks there are local, so I have to believe its for real....Have fun! and enjoy BsAs!!
Best wishes, Dave
