San Miguel de Allende Accommodations?

I can not decide between the following accommodations:
Casa Linda
Casa Luna
Casa Lisa

Casa Luna offers the best price with taxes and breakfast included. Can you give me help with my decision?

Any other advice would be helpful for a first timer!!

johnb,
They are in different areas. Check the tripadvisor site for comments from recent guests.

jb,
I think most folks would prefer to stay near Parque Juarez on the first visit, but there are so many variables, and I think most would be happy in any. C. Linda is well located X from Teatro Peralta and Bellas Artes: the restaurant Nirvana has seen better days. On the higher end, the large hillside view houses for many couples are astounding.
You have seen my posts and know we like LasTerrrazas and Casa Calderoni at somewhat less tarrif.

M, I see that your near Casa Calderoni. Is it a nice place? How does it compare to Casa Luna? I tried to mail them but they don't have email address and the link for reservation won't work. Do you think they take credit cards?
M, thanks for your help, owe you a beer when I come!!!

JB,
Actually, I sold the "townhouse" on Reloj (closing is tomorrow) and I now live in the Eastern barrio of Palmitas in the E Centro just above and N of the Mirador on Salida a Queretaro (through the tunnel).
I went to www.internetsanmiguel and www.portalsanmiguel and got the links to casa Calderoni which I used and connected.

What a great place to vacation. Lots of wonderful people and lots of things to see and do. You can take art classes, Spanish classes and many others. There is one problem that's hard to get away from - barking dogs and other noises. We stayed in Colina Caracol on a street named Calle Allende. If you want quiet, stay away from this area. There are barking dogs (sometimes all night) car alarms going off all the time, and the street is full of noises from children playing to fireworks going off at all hours. Another thing to be careful of in San Miguel is the rental advertisements saying its a short 10 minutes walk downhill to town and a brisk 15 minute walk back uphill to where you are planning to stay. We found that once we spent part of the day in town we were not enthused about going for the walk again or trying to catch a bus or taxi back into town for the evening, which is when a lot of activity goes on. We decided to move closer to town after suffering several nights without sleep. Our advice would be to stay at a good B&B in town. You will save enough on food costs (we got both breakfast and a huge meal at 2pm) and taxi fares to justify the extra cost and your right in town where the action is. We stayed at "Maricela's Home B&B" casamaricela.com. USA phone: 1-409-209-0030. A great place and well worth the $65 per day charge.

Trying to decide on location of accomodations in SMA. I keep hearing about the noise- roosters, bells & fireworks. I'm trying to convince husband to go here but worry about location. He is a very light sleeper. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

a_p,
Tell me your potential dates, price/rate/accomodation requirements and any B&Bs, hotels or house rentals you have seen and liked and I'll try to help.
Meanwhile, there is a ton of local info on the TA (Central MX - San Miguel de Allende) forum.
There really are quiet areas in many price ranges.

Dear M,
I have a similar issue with my husband who is very hesitant about visiting Mexico. We plan to visit SMA April 7-15. He's a very light sleeper & I'm concerned about the noise level of the neighborhood I choose. I'm interested in staying in a B&B close to the centro & have read good things about Casa Luna.
I've seen your many replies to travelers with questions regarding San Miguel & would like to thank you for your amazing kindness & generosity in providing us with so much invaluable information.

We certainly cannot argue with the great feedback on Casa Luna.
We are about to open our windows at night, so noise will be more obvious shortly.
Casa Calderoni is perhaps a quieter option N of El Jardin.
Casa de la Cuesta; Casa Puesta del Sol and Casa Schuck are great, but uphill to the E. The first two are a bit less noisy outside.
Been here so long our brains reject the dogs and churchbells.
Most ignore the noise and simply enjoy El Pueblo Magico.

We stayed in Casa Calderoni in March,2006 and loved that B&B. I chose it based on reviews stating that it was a quiet place, free from ringing bells and street noise. The reviews were correct. Everything was quiet and we slept well. The staff were amazingly helpful, the breakfast was excellent and the other residents were friendly and interesting people. I'd stay there again without any hesitation.
